Chris Day enters his third season as head coach at Vermont in 2018-19.
Day's team finished 2017-18 with an 8-22 record and a 5-11 mark in America East to finish seventh. In the middle of conference play, UVM picked up key wins at New Hampshire (Feb. 5) and at home over Albany (Feb. 8), snapping a 19-game losing streak against the Great Danes which dated back to 2011.
Hanna Crymble was named to the America East All-Conference Second Team, becoming the first Catamount to earn the honor since 2011, and also to the America East All-Academic Team. Day's team led the conference in free throw percentage (75.3%) last season.Â
In Day’s first season at the helm, the Catamounts made tremendous strides. UVM opened the America East schedule with a thrilling home win over Maine, which had advanced to the previous two WNIT tournaments. Additionally, Vermont ended a five-year drought against Hartford and swept the regular season series with UMass Lowell and Stony Brook.
Hanna Crymble collected America East All-Rookie Team honors and Sydney Smith was named to the league’s All-Academic Team. Day’s first year also saw the Green and Gold register the top field goal percentage defense in America East (36.1%) and second-best defense from behind the arc (29.5%).Â
Chris Day was named the eighth head coach in the history of the University of Vermont women's basketball program on May 11, 2016. He was formally introduced to the athletic department and campus community in a press conference on May 17, 2016 (
Watch Press Conference).
Â
Before arriving in Burlington, Day was an assistant coach for the University of Pennsylvania women's basketball program for three seasons (2013-16). He helped guide the Quakers to the 2013-14 and 2015-16 Ivy League Championships, earning NCAA Tournament berths both seasons, and helped lead the program to the 2014-15 WNIT postseason tournament.
Â
Day assisted Penn to a 67-21 (.761) overall record in his three seasons, including a remarkable 36-6 (.857) mark in Ivy League. His teams won at least 21 games all three years, and posted a program-record 24 victories this past season. Penn's scoring defense finished the season ranked ninth nationally in 2014-15 and 14th in 2013-14. Day has recruited and coached nine All-Ivy League selections and a pair of players who were named Ivy Player of the Year.
Â
Day spent one season at Indiana in the Big Ten in 2012-13 and helped the Hoosiers double their conference win total from the previous season. He also signed the nation's leading high school scorer (45.3 points per game) in 2013. Day served as an assistant at Saint Joseph's in the Atlantic 10 for seven seasons and helped the Hawks register a 128-94 record. Saint Joseph's made six WNIT appearances during his seven-year tenure and collected 22 wins during his final campaign.
