NCAA National Championship (2012)
Patrick Weaver, a two-time U.S. National Champion in cross-country skiing, was named head Nordic coach at the University of Vermont in May of 2010. Prior to being named head coach, Weaver spent three seasons as an assistant Nordic coach with the Catamounts.
In 2012, Weaver helped Vermont win its sixth NCAA National Championship in program history in Bozeman, Montana. The Catamounts won by a record-breaking 832 points and outdistanced Utah by a record 161 points.
Nordic skier Amy Glen won the NCAA individual title in the 15K classic race. Glen took the race by two inches in a photo-finish to earn her first career collegiate victory.
In 2011, his first season at the helm of the UVM Nordic team, Weaver was named the EISA Coach of the Year. He guided the Catamounts to a dominating performance on the EISA Circuit. Vermont won five of six carnivals on the EISA Circuit that season, including earning its 31st EISA Championship. UVM posted 1,000-plus points four times on the EISA Circuit and averaged 991.7 points per meet, winning by an average of 160.5 points in its five carnival victories.
Additionally, the Vermont alpine squads picked up 17 individual wins and 44 podium appearances on the EISA Circuit. As a team, the Catamounts won 22 events during the season and finished sixth overall at the NCAA Ski Championships.
As a team, UVM won 31 of 40 individual races on the EISA Circuit, including a rare sweep of all eight events at Vermont's own carnival. Additionally, seven Catamounts won on multiple occasions.
Weaver also helped mentor EISA Nordic Rookie of the Year Scott Patterson in his freshman campaign in 2011. Patterson joined his sister Caitlin and teammate Amy Glen in Estonia as the trio competed for the U.S. Junior National and U-23 teams at the Cross Country World Championships.
The Catamounts have not only excelled on the snow, they also performed well in the classroom. Multiple Catamounts have received the Elite 88 award, which is given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA who is participating in the NCAA Championship. Glen won the honor in 2011, carrying a 4.0 GPA as a biology major at UVM. Teammate Caitlin Patterson earned the honor in 2010, also being named to the Capital One Academic All-District I Team At-Large team with Glen and teammate Franz Bernstein.
Weaver was a member of the United States Ski Team from 1995-2000. He also is a two-time Olympian. He competed in the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, and the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, as a member of the U.S. Olympic Cross-Country Ski Team.
Weaver won the U.S. National Cross-Country Ski Championship in 1998 and 1999. He was part of the U.S. Cross-Country World Championship Teams in 1997 and 1999.
Prior to joining the U.S. Ski Team, Weaver was an assistant Nordic coach at his alma mater, the University of New Hampshire, from 1992-1993. He is a 1991 graduate of UNH with a degree in business administration. As a skier for the UNH Nordic team, the native of Lenox, Massachusetts earned NCAA All-American honors. He was recently inducted into the UNH Athletic Hall of Fame.
Since 2005, Weaver has been operating his own carpentry and design business in Bend, Oregon. From 2004-2005 he was a personal Nordic ski coach for Rebound Sports Performance Lab in Bend. He also won the National Marathon Series in 2005.
