University of Vermont Athletics

A 1996 graduate of Syracuse University, the 2020-21 season marks the 17th year Michael Cairns has been with the University of Vermont Athletic Department.

He is the Assistant Ticket Manager, serving as the main contact for all sports excluding men's hockey.

Cairns majored in Broadcast Journalism at Syracuse's Newhouse School of Public Communications and after graduation, worked at ESPN for 8 years.

While at ESPN, he worked on studio shows such as SportsCenter, NHL 2Night, Baseball Tonight and College Football GameDay. He also worked on remote events covering the NHL, MLB, College Football and Basketball, the 2002 FIFA World Cup and the X Games.

After leaving ESPN, he came to UVM as the Event Staff coordinator, eventually taking on other duties. As well as his current position, Cairns also produced the Rally Awards videos from 2006-2009.

A native of Vermont, Cairns attended South Burlington High School. He now lives in Shelburne, Vt. with his wife Jen and daughters Madeline and Hanna.
