Lavelle enters her second season in 2017-18 as an assistant coach after joining Sarah Dalton's coaching staff in August, 2016.
In her first season on the sidelines, UVM played a competitive schedule against four teams who earned a berth into the NCAA Tournament – Albany, Bryant, Louisville, and Stony Brook. The 2017 Cats also played a pair of ranked opponents – No. 4 Stony Brook and No. 16 Denver.
The Green and Gold had three America East All-Conference performers in 2017, including Second Team honorees Alison Bolt and Meghan Cobb. Brynne Yarranton made the All-Academic Team after maintaining a 4.0 GPA during her UVM tenure. Vermont has landed at least one player on the All-Academic Team in every season since 2008.
Lavelle helped the Class of 2017 graduate with 30 career victories, which is tied for the the fourth-most by a graduating class. The unit helped set the program record with 12 wins in 2014 and set the school mark with four conference victories in 2015.
She joined the staff after serving as a volunteer assistant coach at Syracuse in 2016. Lavelle helped develop defensive strategies and implemented them in game situations, while also handling the management of game film. Last season, the Orange posted a 19-6 record and advanced to the national semifinals.
A native of Fayetteville, New York, Lavelle graduated from SUNY Cortland in 2014. She earned IWLCA All-America honors in 2013 and 2014 and was a finalist for the Honda Award as a senior. Lavelle was a three-year starter on defense and recorded 163 caused turnovers and 184 ground balls throughout her career. She played a key role on a team that was SUNYAC Champions and NCAA semifinal participants for four straight seasons.
In 2015, Lavelle served as a volunteer assistant at Morrisville State and was the junior varsity assistant coach at Fayetteville-Manlius High School. She was also the head coach of the Syracuse Snipers lacrosse club.
