A Vermont native, Bill Reichelt enters his 25th year with the University of Vermont ski program in 2025-26, and his 22nd as director of skiing and head alpine coach. He was named to the position in June of 2003, taking over for director of skiing Chip LaCasse, who retired after 34 years with the program.
A former competitive skier and a graduate of the University of Colorado, Reichelt returned to his hometown of Stowe, Vermont, in 2001, and has been involved with UVM ski racing ever since.
In 2012, Reichelt led Vermont to its sixth NCAA National Championship in program history in Bozeman, Montana. The Catamounts won by a record-breaking 832 points and outdistanced Utah by a record 161 points. Amy Glen (15k classic) and Kate Ryley (slalom) won individual national championships and 10 Catamounts earned 17 All-America citations at the NCAAs. That year, the Catamounts also won their second straight EISA title and dominated the EISA Circuit for the second straight year.
UVM has won 36 EISA Championships in the program's history and boasted an active streak of six consecutive titles from 2011-16.
In 2011, Reichelt guided the Catamounts to a dominating performance on the EISA Circuit. Vermont won five of six carnivals, including earning its 31st EISA Championship. UVM dominated the EISA Circuit posting 1,000-plus points four times and averaged 991.7 points per meet, winning by an average of 160.5 points in its five carnival victories.
Additionally, the Vermont alpine squads picked up 17 individual wins and 44 podium appearances on the EISA Circuit. As a team, the Catamounts won 22 events during the season and finished sixth overall at the NCAA Ski Championships. Reichelt helped mentor Tim Kelley, who went on to win an individual NCAA title in the slalom, along with EISA Alpine Rookies of the Year Kate Ryley and Jonathan Nordbotten. Ryley was also named the 2011 Women's Collegiate Alpine Skier of the Year by Ski Racing Magazine.
As a team, UVM won 31 of 40 individual races on the EISA Circuit, including a rare sweep of all eight events at Vermont's own carnival. Additionally, seven Catamounts won multiple times this year.
In both 2003 and 2005, Reichelt helped lead the Catamounts to a second place finish at the NCAA Ski Championships. Vermont arrived with an incomplete team in 2003, but surprised the skiing community with its finish. In 2005, Vermont also finished second at the NCAA Championships for the 14th time in its history and the third time in five years.
The Catamounts have won the EISA Championship eight times (2005-06, 2011-16) under Reichelt, who was named the EISA Coach of the Year for his efforts in 2003. Reichelt was also named the Vermont Alpine Racing Association Coach of the Year in 2006 after leading the Catamounts to a victory in every carnival on the EISA Circuit.
Reichelt earned EISA Alpine Coach of the Year honors in 2010. Since being named director of skiing in 2003, he has coached 93 NCAA All-Americans.
He lives in Stowe with his wife Justina and sons Woody and Mathias.
