Ruben Resendes

Resendes enters his second season as assistant coach in 2018.

Last season, Resendes helped the Catamounts capture the program’s third America East regular season crown and first since 2012. By season’s end, UVM had eight All-America East selections – highlighted by sophomore and First Team honoree Aron Runarsson as the league’s Goalkeeper of the Year. Junior transfer Geo Alves also joined Runarsson on the First Team.

The 2017 docket included a 4-1 win at Hartwick in the season opener, UVM’s eighth straight season-opening victory and scored the most goals in the first game of the year since 1993. The Cats closed out the regular season with a 1-1 draw at 20th-ranked New Hampshire to claimed the outright regular season title from the Wildcats.

Resendes comes to Burlington after spending the previous six seasons with the New England Revolution Academy, including a role as head coach of the newly established Under-13 and Under-23 teams last summer. During his tenure with the Revolution Academy, he also served as the Regional Development School Coordinator, where he focused on curriculum and player development. In 2008, Resendes played for the Revolution Academy's inaugural team. He was the first Revolution Academy graduate to return to the program as a coach.

Over the past two years as head coach at Dean College, Resendes helped lead the Bulldogs to their most successful stretch in program history with a 33-3-1 (.917) record. In 2016, he guided Dean to an 17-2-0 overall record and earned an invitation to the USCAA National Tournament. The 2016 squad set the program record in total wins (17), consecutive wins (11), goals scored (106), and fewest goals allowed (5). A year earlier, the Bulldogs finished the season nationally ranked at 16-1-0 and Resendes was recognized with the NJCAA All-New England Coach of the Year award.

Before becoming the head coach at Dean, Resendes returned to his alma mater, Southern New Hampshire University, as an assistant coach in 2014. While at SNHU, Resendes saw the Penmen finish the season with a 17-1-2 record. In 2013, he served as associate head coach at Emmanuel where he helped the Saints to a program-best 5-4-0 conference record.

Resendes played collegiately as a midfielder at Southern New Hampshire from 2009-12, including three of Dow's four seasons as an assistant coach with the Penmen. At SNHU, Resendes was a four-year starter and played in four NCAA tournaments. He was a three-time NSCAA All-Region selection and he earned NSCAA All-America honors as a senior. He was named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference Team in each of his four seasons and was named Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year as a freshman in 2009.

Following his successful career with the Penmen, Resendes played professionally for Tindastoll FC of Iceland's Úrvalsdeild.
