Named Assistant Coach in the summer of 2023, Rory Twomey returns to the Vermont men's soccer coaching staff after one season as an assistant coach at St. Lawrence.
In 2023, Twomey's first season back with the program, the Catamounts returned to the Third Round of the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season. The UVM posted a 13-6-2 (4-3 AE) record. Vermont spent all but one week on the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll, finishing the season with the No. 14 ranking. Despite suffering a home loss to No. 6 NJIT in the America East Quarterfinals, Vermont earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament. The Catamounts knocked out Rider, 3-1, in the First Round at Virtue Field. Vermont quickly traveled to Orlando, Florida and earned a 3-2 overtime victory over No. 12 UCF. In the Third Round, the Cats faced No. 5 West Virginia, falling 2-1.
The Saints repeated as Liberty League Champions and advanced to the Second Round of the Division III NCAA Tournament with Twomey on the staff. St. Lawrence finished the season with a 13-2-6 (6-0-3) mark.
Twomey was on the Vermont staff for two seasons (2020-21, 2021), with the Catamounts amassing an 18-7-2 (10-2-2 AE) record. In his second season at Vermont, the Catamounts captured the 2021 America East crown with a thrilling 1-0 victory over top-seeded New Hampshire. He served as Director of Operations before earning a promotion to assistant coach with the Cats. Twomey was heavily involved with team logistics, recruiting, and scouting while on the UVM staff.
Twomey is a 2019 graduate of Saint Joseph's College of Maine. The South Windsor, Connecticut native played four seasons for the Monks, starting in 82 of 85 games played. Twomey served as team captain in 2018. He received three All-GNAC accolades and guided the Monks to three NCAA Tournament appearances.
