Randy Coble enters his 10th season as an assistant coach for the University of Vermont men’s soccer program. During Coble’s time with the Catamounts, the team has qualified for the America East Tournament every year, winning the regular season title with an undefeated record in 2012, its first in 23 years, 2017, and 2019. The Cats won America East Championships in 2015 and 2021. Coble was a member of the 2012 America East Coaching Staff of the Year, becoming just the second UVM coaching staff to earn the honor in the history of the program.
Under Coble’s direction, the UVM goalkeepers have posted a total of 40 clean sheets during his tenure. He also oversaw the development of three America East Goalkeepers of the Year - Conor Leland ’14 and Aron Runarsson '20, and Nate Silveira. During the 2012 season, Leland ranked first in save percentage in America East (.841), posted four straight shutouts in consecutive games between 10/10 and 10/24, was named College Sports Madness National Defensive Player of the Week on 9/10, and finished the year with seven wins, six by shutout and a 0.81 goals against average. Leland ranked 11th in the country among Division I leaders in save percentage, and was named to the America East All-Conference First Team. Leland closed out his career ranked fifth in shutouts (18), sixth in goals against average (1.07) and seventh in wins (22) among UVM's all-time goalkeepers. In 2017, Runarsson recorded a 0.69 goals-against average and .862 save percentage against league rivals. Silveira posted an 0.84 goals against average, .771 save percentae, and tallied eight shuouts in 2021. He was credited with 13 wins -- the second-highest single-season total at Vermont.
Coble came to the University of Vermont after spending two season at St. Michaels College working under former University of Vermont associate head coach Wade Jean. Coble spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the Purple Knights men's soccer program, working primarily with the goalkeepers. During his two years at SMC, the Purple Knights yielded 28 goals in 39 contests, posting 20 shutouts.
Prior to SMC, Coble was a member of the Old Dominion University women’s soccer staff, working primarily with the defense and goalkeepers. Coble helped lead the Lady Monarchs to a 12-7 record, to include a win against then #19 University of Florida in the Westfield Cup hosted by Akron University. Coble helped build the foundation for freshman goalkeeper Laura Tupman ‘08 who would go on to become the all-time leader in shutouts at ODU.
A 2004 graduate of Castleton University with a degree in criminal justice, Coble was a three-year member of the Castleton soccer team and helped lead the Spartans to back to back trips to the North Atlantic Conference finals in 2002 and 2003, winning the conference in 2003. Coble later earned his master's in criminal justice from Boston University in 2014.
