Former Catamount Ryan Schneider has spent 11 seasons on the UVM staff, including the last three seasons as associate head coach.

Schneider earned the promotion to associate head coach prior to the start of the 2021-22 season. Vermont has captured America East Championships and Regular Season Titles in each of his two seasons in the elevated role.

The maestro of the UVM offense, the Catamounts have finished in the nation's top 20 in effective field goal percentage in two of his three seasons as associate head coach.

The Catamounts completed an America East Championship three-peat for just the second time in program history in 2023-24. UVM went 28-7 (15-1 AE) that season, tying the 2021-22 team for the second-most wins in program history. The Cats tied the program record for non-conference wins (10), which included a thrilling early-season run to the championship game at the Myrtle Beach Invitational. In conference play, Vermont clinched its eighth-straight regular season crown -- the longest active streak in the country. The Catamounts captured the America East Championship with a 66-61 victory over No. 2 UMass Lowell at Patrick Gym. Vermont's offense was as balanced as ever, with eight different Catamounts leading the team in scoring throughout the season. A total of 12 different players reached double figures for the Catamounts.

The 2022-23 Catamounts (23-11, 14-2 AE) successfully defended their America East Title with a 72-59 victory over No. 2 UMass Lowell in the conference championship at Patrick Gym. Vermont clinched the regular season title for the seventh consecutive season, which is the second-longest active streak in the country. UVM produced conference highs in scoring margin (10.8) field goal percentage (49.1%), three-point percentage (37.7%), and assists per game (14.7) while producing the fewest turnovers per game (7.6). Finn Sullivan was named America East Player of the Year, marking the seventh straight season a Catamount received the award - the second-longest streak in NCAA Division I Men's Basketball history.

Picked No. 2 in the conference's preseason poll, the Catamounts (28-6, 17-1 AE) returned to their winning ways in 2021-22 by securing their ninth America East Championship. No. 1 UVM defeated No. 2 UMBC 82-43 in the title game, which was the largest margin of victory in a conference championship game since 1989. The Catamounts outscored opponents by 110 points in the playoffs, which was the largest margin by any team in a single conference tournament over 40 seasons.

Vermont was dominant in conference play, winning the league by six games and becoming the first team in the nation to secure a conference regular season title. Ryan Davis became the fifth Catamount in program history to win multiple America East Player of the Year awards. Vermont also placed Ben Shungu and Isaiah Powell on All-Conference Teams, and Aaron Deloney was named Sixth Man of the Year. Vermont ranked in the top five nationally in field-goal percentage (49.2%) and scoring margin (14.1).

Despite a shortened 2020-21 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Green and Gold won 10 conference games and earned a share of the America East regular season championship. Ryan Davis was named America East Player of the Year as Vermont became the fifth program in NCAA history honored with five straight conference Player of the Year awards. Davis also earned NABC and USWBA All-District honors.

The 2019-20 Cats became the first team in league history to win four consecutive outright America East regular season titles and received votes in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll eight times. UVM finished the campaign with a 26-7 overall record and 14-2 mark in league play. Vermont took down St. John’s for its first win over a high-major program since 2009. The Green and Gold swept the Atlantic 10 for the second year in a row with wins over St. Bonaventure and George Washington. Vermont went on a 12-game conference winning streak which was the fourth-longest streak of its kind in the nation. The Cats earned a record-setting eighth America East Championship, breaking a tie with Northeastern for the most in league history. UVM ranked in the top five nationally in scoring defense (59.5 ppg allowed) and field-goal percentage defense (38.0%).

In 2018-19, UVM captured its ninth America East regular season championship and returned to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time. The Cats posted a 27-7 overall record and went 14-2 in conference play. The Green and Gold swept three conferences during the non-league slate, including the first ever against Atlantic 10.

He helped UVM to a 27-8 record in 2017-18, its second-highest single season win total, trailing only last year's historic 29-win campaign. Vermont posted a 15-1 league record and captured its eighth America East regular season crown in school history. The Catamounts have recorded 10-straight 20-win seasons – one of only 10 programs to accomplish the feat.

The Cats were on the national radar and received votes in the Associated Press (AP) Top-25 Poll three times. UVM extended its record-setting conference winning streak to 31 games. Vermont also logged the third-longest winning streak in program history at 15 games. The Green and Gold held the nation's longest overall winning streak for the second straight season. The Catamounts were consistently among the top mid-major programs in the country, ranking in the top-10 throughout the season in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 poll and the MidMajorMadness.com Weekly Power Rankings.

The 2016-17 season was a historical run for the Catamounts. UVM set the program record and conference record for most victories (29) and were the only America East team to record a 16-0 undefeated conference season in the league's history.

UVM also became the first team ever to sweep the league's major awards – John Becker (Coach of the Year), Trae Bell-Haynes (Player of the Year), Anthony Lamb (Rookie of the Year), Dre Wills (Defensive Player of the Year), and Darren Payen (Sixth Man of the Year).

In the polls, the Catamounts received votes in the Associated Press (AP) Top-25 poll for seven straight weeks, climbed into the top-10 of the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 and MidMajorMadness.com Power Rankings, and finished the season with 12 votes in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll.

Schneider returned to UVM following one season as an assistant coach at Northfield Mount Hermon where he helped the program win the 2013 Prep School National Championship for the first time in school history.  He also mentored several student-athletes who were headed to Division I program's following their careers at Northfield Mount Hermon.

Schneider also spent the 2011-12 season as an assistant coach at Brown University and was charged with player development of the guards, wings and forwards.  He also assisted in many other aspects of the program during his stint in Providence.

Schneider, a native of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., began his playing career at Vermont.  He spent the 2004-05 season playing for Tom Brennan and also played one year (2005-06) under Mike Lonergan. During his career with the Catamounts, Schneider won an America East Championship and was a member of the UVM squad that upset Syracuse in the 2005 NCAA Tournament. Schneider made a second appearance in the America East Championship Game as a sophomore.

Following two years at Vermont, Schneider transferred to Marist. He closed out his career with the Red Foxes and earned MAAC Second Team All-Conference honors in 2009. He was also named to the MAAC All-Academic Team and was an ESPN Academic All-American as a senior.

After graduating from Marist in 2009 with a degree in communications, Schneider played two seasons of professional basketball in Portugal. He averaged 15 points and 7.0 rebounds per game and ranked first in rebounding and second in scoring with CAB Madeira. In his second season overseas, Schneider played for A.D. Ovarense.
