Women’s Lacrosse Rolls Past Charlotte 21-10 During Season Opener

FINAL SCORE: Vermont 21, Charlotte 10
CHARLOTTE, NC. – Eight different Catamounts registered at least one goal or more during Vermont's (1-0) season opener at Charlotte (0-1) as the Catamounts defeated the 49ers 21-10 on Saturday afternoon from Jerry Richardson Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Catamounts opened scoring just 2:10 into the game, seeing Jane Trauger score her first goal of the season off a free position shot, earning Vermont the 1-0 lead.
  • UVM doubled the lead just 49 seconds later, this time getting a goal from Caitlin Haggerty while being a women-up. Ava Wilde was awarded an assist on the Vermont second goal. The Catamounts took a 2-0 lead.
  • Karina Sethi made it 3-0 at the 8:29 mark of the opening frame, executing on her free position shot while being a women-up, scoring her first goal of the season to propel Vermont to a three-goal cushion.
  • Trauger scored her second goal of the game just under two minutes later, finding the back of the net after being assisted by Haggerty, bringing the Catamount lead to 4-0.
  • The 49ers got on the scoreboard 5:31 into the first quarter, but Vermont responded under a minute later when Lydia Doraz scored her first goal of the season on a free position shot, making the lead 501 in favor of the Catamounts.
  • Lauren Lefebvre wrapped up the scoring in the first quarter while UVM was a woman-down, netting her first goal of the season with 1:55 remaining in the opening frame, elevating the Catamounts advantage to 6-1.
  • Just over a minute into the second quarter, Doraz fed Ali Cabot near the net who scored her first career goal, earning Vermont the 7-1 lead.
  • Doraz notched her second goal of the game a little over a minute later as UVM took a commanding 8-1 lead with 12:50 remaining until halftime.
  • Ava Wilde tallied her first goal of the season off a free position shot with 10:02 remaining until halftime, earning Vermont the 10-2 lead.
  • Trauger recorded her hattrick goal with 8:32 remaining until halftime, successfully scoring her free position shot to extend the Catamount lead to 11-2.
  • Charlotte was able to orchestrate back-to-back goals, but the Catamounts responded right away, seeing Doraz secure her hattrick with 5:40 remaining in the second quarter, earning Vermont the 12-4 advantage. No goals were scored for the remainder of the second frame as UVM took an eight-goal lead into halftime.
  • The 49ers opened scoring in the third quarter, but Wilde bounced back for Vermont, scoring UVM's 13th goal of the game, her second of the game, making the score 13-5 with 11:51 to go before the final frame.
  • Haggerty scored her second goal of the game with 11:04 on the clock in the third frame, getting assisted by Doraz while being a woman-up, garnering the 14-5 advantage over the 49ers.
  • Cabot scored two goals and first year Kara Rosenberger scored her first career goal before the end of the third quarter, sending Vermont into the final frame of action with a commanding 17-7 lead.
  • Trauger, Haggerty, Doraz, and Sethi all scored in the fourth quarter as the Catamounts secured the 21-10 road victory over Charlotte in the team's season opener.

  • Doraz had a career-high seven points on four goals and a tied career high three assists. She also tied a career-high eight shots on goal.
  • Trauger returned to action scoring four goals and putting six shots on goal.
  • Haggerty and Cabot each notched three goals on Saturday. It was Cabot's first career hattrick in her first career game.
  • Lauren Lefebvre, Sethi, and Wilde all had two goals. Wilde added three assists and Lefebvre added one assist.
  • Rosenberger secured her first career goal against Charlotte.

UP NEXT
Following the season opener win over Charlotte, Vermont will get a full week to prepare for another road matchup, getting set to face UMass on Saturday (Feb. 14). Opening faceoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
