FINAL SCORE (OT): #5 Northeastern 3, Vermont 2
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Rose-Marie Brochu scored an equalizer goal with just 27 seconds remaining in regulation to send the Catamounts to overtime with the Huskies, but it was Northeastern (23-6-1, 18-1-1 HEA) that skated away with the 3-2 overtime win over Vermont (13-15-4, 7-10-3 HEA) on Saturday night from Gutterson Fieldhouse during the team's annual Pack the Gut Challenge presented by the Windjammer.

"Great hockey game at Gutterson tonight and I want to thank the huge crowd that came out to support us," said Head Coach
Jim Plumer. "We played a full 62 minutes true to our identity, and it came down to Northeastern making one more play than us. I am super proud of our team for battling back twice and especially out Penalty Kill which was perfect tonight including killing a five-on-three. Credit to Northeastern's goalie for an outstanding performance and it was good to at least get a point as we are in quite a battle in the standings and every point is important. We will be ready to play playoff-intensity hockey the next four games."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Northeastern opened scoring 14:21 into the first period, seeing Emy McDermid secure her first career goal, sending a slap shot over the left shoulder of Lily Prendergast, earning the Huskies a 1-0 advantage.
- Throughout the first period, the Catamounts tallied 19 total shots on goal, but Lisa Jonsson stood tall as Vermont entered the second frame down by one goal.
- Vermont tied the game at 1-1 with just 2:04 remaining in the second period when Stella Retrum wheeled her way to the slot, unleashing the initial shot that got saved by Jonsson. Lauren O'Hara was there for the rebound, smacking the puck towards the net but Tristan Thompson was there for the block. As chaos ensued, Josie Hemp was able to locate the puck and find the back of the net, scoring her sixth goal of the season, knotting the game at 1-1.
- Eloise Caron scored on a breakaway opportunity 14:19 into the third period, propelling Northeastern back in front, 2-1.
- With their goalie pulled, the Catamounts made one last push to get an equalizer as time was quickly winding down.
- The Catamounts were relentlessly throwing any shot they could towards the net and eventually cashed in on an equalizer when Brochu was able to find space in the slot, burying her fourth goal of the season amidst chaos in front of the net, knotting the score at 2-2, sending the game into overtime.
- Allie Lalonde took advantage of a Vermont turnover in the Catamount zone, skating to the front of the net, picking the bottom left corner to secure her eighth goal of the season, earning Northeastern the 3-2 overtime victory from Gutterson Fieldhouse.

- Brochu scored her fourth goal of the season to go along with four shots on goal and 10 faceoff wins.
- Hemp tallied her third career multi-point game, scoring one goal and one assist to go along with a game-high six shots on goal and a game-high four blocked shots.
- Retrum recorded her 13th assist of the season, a new career high, while adding five shots on goal.
- O'Hara registered her 15th assist of the season, a team-high, while adding four shots on goal and 12 faceoff wins.
- Morgann Skoda tallied one assist, her third of the season, while adding three shots on goal and two blocked shots.
- UVM outshot Northeastern on goal 38-27.
- Vermont blocked 20 total shots to Northeastern's 10, coming one short of tying the team's season high (21).
- The Catamounts successfully went six-for-six on the penalty kill, denying the Huskies on all six of their powerplays.
- With tonight's 3-2 decision, Community Bank N.A. will donate $100 to Special Olympics Vermont. Community Bank, N.A. donates $50 per goal to Special Olympics Vermont for every goal the men's and women's team scores this season.
