Women’s Hockey Travels to Boston University For Hockey East Quarterfinal Matchup

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The eight-seed Vermont Catamounts will face the two-seed Boston University Terriers during the Quarterfinals of the 2025 Hockey East Playoff Tournament on Saturday (Mar. 1). Puck drop is set for 4 p.m. from Walter Brown Arena. Fans can also catch all the action live on ESPN+.

PLAYOFF HISTORY
  • For the second consecutive season, Vermont will be on the road for a quarterfinal matchup.
  • UVM is 6-14 in Hockey East Quarterfinal matchups. All 14 appearances had come consecutively under Head Coach Jim Plumer.
  • This will be the first meeting between the Catamounts and the Terriers in the playoffs since 2016.
  • In Hockey East Tournament history on the women's side the eight-seed is 3-18 overall and has never advanced to the semifinals. The eight-seed is 3-2 in the opening round and 0-16 once reaching the quarterfinals.
  • The Catamounts are 6-18 in their Division I program history in the playoffs and have the chance to be the first eight seed in Hockey East history to advance to the semifinals.
  • Vermont's overtime win against Holy Cross in the opening round was the third ever overtime victory in Gutterson Fieldhouse during playoffs for the women's hockey team.
 
KOKAVEC NAMED TO THIRD TEAM ALL-HOCKEY EAST TEAM
  • Ashley Kokavec was honored as one of two defenders on the Third Team All-Conference team released by Hockey East on Friday afternoon. It's the sophomore defenders first Hockey East All-Star team honor.
  • Kokavec is currently tied for a team high 16 points, as a blueliner, earning five goals and a team high 11 assists so far this season.
  • Kokavec is one of two Catamounts to register a shorthanded goal this season, and leads all UVM defenders in shots, tallying 84 to this point. Her 84 shots are third most among defenders in the Hockey East conference.
  • Kokavec has recorded 15 points in conference play, tied for third most by any defender in Hockey East.
 
VERMONT OUTLOOK
  • Vermont began the 2025 Hockey East Playoffs in an opening round duel with Holy Cross, defeating the Crusaders 3-2 in a thrilling overtime period. It was the first time in UVM women's hockey history going head-to-head with Holy Cross in the Hockey East Playoffs.
  • Vermont native Cecilia DesLauriers was the hometown hero on Wednesday, scoring the overtime tally 13:13 into extra time, securing her third goal of the season and advancing Vermont into the Quarterfinals.
  • Maddy Skelton, and Rose-Marie Brochu each found the back of the net in Vermont's Opening Round win while Oona Havana notched her second career multi-point game. Kyla Bent, Ashley Kokavec, and Natalie Zarcone all recorded an assist.
  • UVM has five wins during the regular season over top 15 nationally ranked opponents this season, four coming against Hockey East teams (Boston University, Boston College, Northeastern twice, and St. Lawrence).
  • Vermont is the only Hockey East school to score a shorthanded goal in back-to-back games this season.
  • UVM has been solid in the faceoff circle this season, ranking 11th in the Nation in faceoff win percentage with a 52.7% success rate, good for third in Hockey East. Blais-Savoie is at the forefront of these wins for UVM, individually ranking fourth in the Nation and first in Hockey East with 433 total wins on the campaign.
  • Vermont is the only Hockey East school that has two centers in the conference in the top 10 for most faceoffs won this season. Blais-Savoie sits alone at the top with 433 while Rose-Maire Brochu rounds out the top 10 in eighth with 287 faceoff wins.
  • UVM is one of five Hockey East schools that has two or more defenders with eight or more assists on the season so far, (Bent and Kokavec). Providence, UConn, Northeastern, and Boston University are the other four Hockey East schools.
  • Lara Beecher and Blais-Savoie each lead a team high six goals on the season.
  • Beecher has 16 points on the season with six goals and 10 assists, tied with Kokavec for a team high in total points. Beecher leads the team with 113 shots on goal, tied for fifth most in Hockey East.
 
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
  • Boston University won two out of the three meetings with Vermont during the regular season, seeing Vermont secure their first win over the Terriers since November 2022 defeating Boston University 3-2 on home ice in the second matchup. BU was victorious in the first game 2-1, and the third game 4-1. Bent, Havana, and Beecher were all goal scorers for Vermont in the 3-2 win on January 11, 2025.
  • The Terriers are 21-11-2 overall and 18-7-2 in Hockey East play, currently the two-seed in the Hockey East Playoff Tournament.
  • The Terriers wrapped up their regular season dropping back-to-back games to Hockey East Regular Season Champions, UConn. BU fell 4-1 in the first game and 3-1 in the second. In their last five matchups, Boston University holds a 2-2-1 record.
  • BU is 14-8 overall during quarterfinal matchups in their 13 total appearances. As the two-seed, BU is 3-2 in the quarterfinal matchup and have also won the Hockey East championship twice as the two-seed.
  • Boston University holds a 9-4-2 home record and a 11-6-0 away record.
  • The Terriers are led by Sydney Healey who carries a team high 21 points on another team high 13 goals and eight assists. Healey was also honored to the Third Team All-Hockey East team.
  • The Catamounts are 13-44-8 all-time against Boston University.
