COACH'S QUOTE
"We battled hard today but Northeastern did what they had to do," said Head Coach
Jim Plumer. "We had an outstanding goaltending performance from Syd Correa, and it was great for her to do that on Senior Day. Now our attention turns to Holy Cross and our opportunity to play our best in the playoffs."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Following a scoreless first period, the Catamounts struck first 4:09 into the middle frame on the powerplay, seeing Ashley Kokavec feed the puck up to Natalie Zarcone who was waiting at the point. After receiving a pass from Kokavec, Zarcone wasted no time shooting a wrist shot on net, beating the glove of Mattie Robitzer to give Vermont the first lead of the game, 1-0.
- A spectacular second period from Sydney Correa stopping all 11 shots that were fired her way anchored UVM into the final period with a one goal lead.
- Northeastern came out on fire in the third period, scoring two goals in a 37 second time span, gaining a 2-1 advantage 5:21 into the third frame. Lily Shannon was the first Huskie to score followed by Taze Thompson netting the go-ahead goal.
- With nine minutes remaining in the final period, Correa made a thrilling one handed paddle save, denying Jaden Bogden the opportunity at a wide open net, keeping the Catamounts hopes alive as they battled hard for the comeback.
- Skylar Irving scored an empty net goal with 52 seconds of gametime remaining, sealing the deal and earning Northeastern the 3-1 victory on Saturday afternoon.
