Catamounts Defeat Utah in Thriller

HOOKSETT, N.H. – Matthew Drimmie and Luke Reiter had four points each as Vermont (2-1) defeated Utah (1-3) on Friday afternoon.

COACH'S QUOTE
"Hats off to Utah today on a hard-fought game. I thought our guys handled their high speed of play well and fought for 60 minutes," said head coach Chris Feifs. "That's what it takes to beat a team that plays at that tempo. Overall, I am just really happy of how we played on the road through a lot of adversity and got the win."
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Catamounts took a 3-1 lead after the first quarter with two goals from Matthew Drimmie and Mason Bardwell.
  • The Utes reversed the score line in the second quarter, with Drimmie completing his hat trick just under two minutes ago off an assist from Harrison Josloff.
  • The two teams went back and forth in the third quarter, with Utah starting on a 2-0 run before Vermont with three straight.
  • Drimmie picked up his fourth while Cullen Decker and Charlie O'Brien each scored to get the Catamounts three straight in three minutes.
  • With 10 seconds left in the third quarter, each team scored once.
  • Ryan Stines scored with eight seconds to go before Henry Dodge took the ensuing faceoff for his first goal of the season.
  • Utah scored twice in 27 seconds to open the fourth quarter to give them a 9-8 advantage.
  • Josloff and Reiter combined for two goals in six seconds to give Vermont back the lead.
  • O'Brien scored with just over five and a half minutes to go to make it 11-9.
  • The Utes got a goal back a minute later but could not find an equalizer.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Drimmie led all scorers with four goals. O'Brien was second with two, which marked the first two goals of his career. The Catamounts had five others record a goal.
  • Reiter was the top distributor for Vermont with three assists. Decker had two assists, while four other Catamounts had an assist.
  • Dodge went a season-high 19-24 from the faceoff spot while recording a career-high 15 ground balls.
  • Eddie Schwasnick and Jack Combs were second and third in ground balls, with five and four in both.
  • Combs led the way with two caused turnovers as well.
