COACH'S QUOTE
"Today was better but still not enough to overcome a very good Northeastern team," said Head Coach
Jim Plumer. "I'm proud of our fight after a slow start and our comeback was ignited by a great goal from
Mya Lawrence. There's still a lot of work to do and we will get back to it on Monday."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Huskies opened scoring on the powerplay seeing Lily Shannon score her fifth goal of the season with 14:08 on the clock in the first period, earning Northeastern the 1-0 lead.
- Vermont responded with 5:01 remaining in the opening frame when Sofie Skott connected with Lawrence who was rushing into the offensive zone. Lawrence made a cut to the slot, electing to rifle a wrist shot to the top right corner, beating Lisa Jönsson glove side high, securing her first career collegiate goal, knotting the contest at 1-1.
- Just 57 seconds into the middle frame, the Catamounts gained the lead when Rose-Marie Brochu and Makena Lloyd-Howe orchestrated a set of passes that eventually saw Havana collect the puck near the far blue line, having a wide-open lane towards the net. Upon reaching the circle, Havana laced a shot to the top left corner, securing her fourth goal of the season, earning Vermont the 2-1 lead.
- The Huskies bounced back with 15:48 on the clock, seeing Stryker Zablocki score her fourth goal of the season on a breakaway, second of the weekend series, knotting the score at 2-2.
- Northeastern regained the lead just over six minutes later on the powerplay when Jules Constantinople sniped a shot from the blue line, notching her fourth goal of the season to gain a 3-2 lead.
- The Catamounts had a powerplay opportunity late in the third period to try and find an equalizing goal, but nothing was to show for it as Northeastern maintained the 3-2 lead until the final buzzer rang, skating away with the weekend sweep over Vermont from Matthews Arena.
