COACH'S QUOTE
"Really good response by our guys," said Head Coach
Steve Wiedler. "Just a good, hard fought, college hockey game on both sides. Penalty Kill really stepped up to book end the game.
Aiden Wright played great, and
Jonah Aegerter with his first career goal being a game-winner was a great moment. Our senior class provided great grit, and leadership. We were intense, fast, and having fun tonight. It was a fun bench to be on."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless opening 39 minutes Saturday night the Catamounts opened the scoring with Jax Wismer's first goal of the season. Colin Kessler passed back out to the point and Philip Törnqvist quickly dished it over to Wismer along the blue line. Wismer one-timed a slapshot and through traffic it found the back of the net to make it 1-0 with 27 seconds left in the middle frame.
- Morgan Winters equalized for the Wildcats 9:32 into the final frame. Aiden Wright handled the point shot from Winters, but the puck bounced off the UVM defender in front and slowly dribbled just over the line to make it 1-1.
- Late in the third period Aegerter took the puck out of the Vermont end and skated through the neutral zone with speed. As he cut past a UNH defender just inside their blue line he wired a wrist shot bar down to notch his first career game-winner.
- UNH earned a power play opportunity with 55.7 seconds to play. After pulling their netminder it meant a six-on-four advantage for the Wildcats. In the ensuing power play UVM blocked five shots headlined by two from Duncan Ramsay to preserve the Hockey East win for the Catamounts.
