COACH'S QUOTE
"A great performance in the most difficult part of conference play," said Head Coach
Rob Dow. "Although disappointed not to score in the first half, we stayed persistent and got the job done in the second. Omar Robanna 90 minutes was impressive in all phases of the game. We're looking forward to playing for a regular season championship at Binghamton on Tuesday."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vermont nearly found the back of the net just 5:22 into the match when Nick Lockermann created space, dancing around a defender just outside of the box, using his left foot to strike a shot towards the goal, but the ball rang off the post. Philipp Kühn was there for the rebound, but he placed his shot high of the net, earning UAlbany a goal kick as the score remained knotted at zero.
- The Catamounts broke through in the 55th minute of play when Marcos Blasco connected with Kühn, who then found David Ismail, wasting no time using his right foot to chip the ball over UAlbany's goalkeeper, scoring his sixth goal of the season, earning Vermont a 1-0 lead.
- Just as time was expiring, Ryan Zellefrow made a bundle of power moves to maneuver his way into the box, but a yellow card on UAlbany's David Pepple in the 90th minute awarded Vermont a penalty kick opportunity. Kühn was elected to take the kick, making no mistake about it, pinning a left foot shot bar down, handing Vermont the insurance goal with less than one minute to play.
- The Catamounts maintained possession for the rest of time, walking away with the 2-0 shutout win on Senior Night from Virtue Field.
