COACH'S QUOTE
"Proud of our guys for staying in the fight," said Head Coach
Steve Wiedler. "St. Lawrence played an intense and physical brand of hockey. It was impressive. We have to continue to work towards our identity. Going to the North Country is no easy task. To have a successful season you have to find different ways to win and we did that tonight."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In his first career start Wright made nine saves for the Catamounts in a scoreless opening frame.
- Late in the second frame Wright was again stout for the Catamounts during a SLU power play opportunity. He made four saves including two back-to-back stops that had the Gutterson Fieldhouse crowd on its feet with 1:28 to play in the middle frame.
- Herrington would score the Catamounts first goal of the season 52 seconds into the third period. At the point Sebastian Törnqvist fired a snapshot through traffic, the puck was deflected by a SLU defender and caromed to Herrington cutting into the slot. He wasted no time and fired a shot off the bar and in for his first career goal. Colin Kessler earned the secondary assist on the goal.
- SLU had another power play opportunity in the final frame and again Wright stood on his head making five saves to keep the UVM lead at 1-0.
- With 1:25 to play in the contest Filak gave Vermont a two-goal cushion with his first career goal into the empty net. Thomas Sinclair intercepted a SLU pass in the Vermont zone and chipped it into the neutral zone for Filak to retrieve and slot home.
- The Saints did get on the board with 30 seconds to play as Rasmus Svartström scored his second goal of the season on a broken play in front of Wright to make it 2-1.
- After giving up the SLU goal UVM didn't allow another shot to seal its first win of the season.
