Men’s Basketball Storms into the New Year with 121-37 Victory Over Elms

FINAL SCORE: Vermont 121, Elms 37
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Seven different Catamounts registered double-digit scoring against the Blazers led by Ileri Ayo-Faleye with 19 points, seeing Vermont (7-8) roll past Elms College (0-12) 121-37 on Monday night from Patrick Gymnasium during the team's final non-conference matchup of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nick Fiorillo ignited a 16-8 scoring run after the opening tipoff, shooting 3-3 from long range prior to the first media timeout with 15:11 showing on the clock in the first half.
  • An emphatic breakaway two hand jam from Ayo-Faleye to cap off a 16-10 scoring run forced Elms College to call a 30 second timeout, trailing by 14 points, 32-18, with 8:36 remaining in the opening half.
  • TJ Hurley connected with Ayo-Faleye on back-to-back offensive possessions with an alley-oop pass, giving the Catamounts full momentum into a 15-4 scoring run, capturing a 48-22 advantage with 3:17 left in the first half of action.
  • Sean Blake capped off the first half with a two-hand dunk after corralling a pass from Fiorillo, putting Vermont in front 59-26 heading into halftime, the biggest lead UVM has had entering the second half of play this season.
  • The Catamounts began the second half orchestrating a dominant 18-2 scoring run, overall gaining a 77-28 lead with 14:59 left to play in the second frame.
  • It was all Vermont for the rest of the game, limiting ELMS to just nine points for the remainder of the second half as the Catamounts took off to win 121-37 on Monday night from Patrick Gymnasium.

  • Ayo-Faleye recorded a season high 19 points (game high) to go along with three rebounds, a season high four assists, and one block.
  • Fiorillo tied a season high four made three-pointers while adding seven rebounds, a season/game high five assists, and a season high three steals.
  • Noah Barnett recorded a career high seven rebounds.
  • Hurley notched a career high three steals to go along with 12 points, two rebounds, and four assists.
  • Alamutu notched a season high 14 points, making a season high seven shots while grabbing five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
  • Blake tied a career high, scoring 13 points to go along with a new career high, two steals. Blake also added four rebounds and four assists.
  • Seven different Catamounts earned double-digit scoring vs the Blazers. 
  • Vermont's 121 total points scored is the most points scored in a single game since November 14, 2018, when the Catamounts defeated NVU-Lyndon 122-56.
  • Monday night's 121-37 victory is the largest single game point differential win in UVM Men's Basketball history.
  • With the win, Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to Vermont Children's Trust Foundation as part of the Cats Win, Community Wins initiative.
 
UP NEXT
Following the victory over Elms College, Vermont hits the road to Durham, NH on Saturday (Jan. 4), gearing up to face the UNH Wildcats in the Catamounts America East conference opener. Saturday's matchup will be the first of a three-game road trip for UVM. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
