Women's Ice Hockey Nate Scandore

Women’s Hockey Set to Face No. 4 Minnesota Duluth to Wrap Up Non-Conference Action

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Vermont women's hockey team (3-11-2, 2-7-2 WHEA) will travel to Duluth, Minn. for its last non-conference weekend series of the season, facing the #4 ranked Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs (8-5-1, 7-4-1 WCHA) on Friday (Nov. 29) and Saturday (Nov. 30) from AMSOIL Arena. Friday's puck drop is slated for 6 p.m. (CT) while Saturday's contest has a 3 p.m. (CT) scheduled start. Both games will be broadcast live on the BIG10+ network.

VERMONT OUTLOOK
  • Last time the Catamounts went head-to-head with a WCHA team on the road it was for a weekend series with the Minnesota Gophers on January 12 and 13, 2018. Vermont came out victorious 4-2 on January 12, 2018, vs the Gophers, seeing the second win in program history vs a WCHA opponent.
  • All-time, Vermont and Minnesota Duluth have only met one time, facing off on November 25, 2017, in Burlington, Vt. from Gutterson Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs were able to squeak out a 2-1 victory. UVM's loan goal came from Olivia Kilberg.
  • Vermont is 2-22-2 all-time vs WCHA teams. The Catamounts will play in Duluth, Minn. for the first time in program history.
  • The Catamounts have dominated in the faceoff circle to begin the season, ranking 9th in the Nation in faceoff win percentage with a 54% success rate, good for second in Hockey East. Evelyne Blais-Savoie is at the forefront of these wins for UVM, individually ranking 7th in the Nation and first in Hockey East with 199 total wins on the campaign.
  • In Vermont's most recent matchup vs Maine, Rose-Marie Brochu secured her second goal of the season while Kaylee Lewis notched her fourth assist of the season. Hailey Eikos also tallied one assist, her third point on the campaign which ties her career high for total points in a season.
  • Ashley Kokavec has recorded six points on two goals and four assists so far this season, tied for sixth most amongst blue liners in Hockey East. Kokavec also leads the team in +/- rating, earning a +4 rating thus far.
  • Jane Gervais leads every goalie in Hockey East in total saves, securing 340 on the season to this point.
  • Lara Beecher leads the team in points, earning eight thus far on three goals and five assists, tied for 25th in Hockey East.
 
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
  • Minnesota Duluth is 8-5-1 overall and 7-4-1 in WCHA play, holding a 4-2-0 record at home and 4-3-1 when on the road. The Bulldogs are currently ranked #4 in the country and come into the weekend series sitting at third in their conference.
  • The Bulldogs most recently swept a weekend series with Bemidji State University, outscoring the Beavers 10-1 in the process.
  • Minnesota Duluth has the second highest power-play percentage in the WCHA, scoring on the powerplay 27.3% of the time.
  • Duluth is led by graduate student Clara Van Wieren who has posted a team high 14 points on five goals and a team high nine assists. Not far behind is fellow graduate student Olivia Wallin, notching 13 points on six goals and seven assists.
  • Wallin is one of three WCHA players to record a hat trick this season.
