FINAL SCORE: Vermont 0, Union 1
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Despite the Catamounts outshooting Union 28 to 25 and 11 to five in the third period, Karianne Engelbert netted the game winning score for the Garnet Chargers with 2:20 remaining in the third period on Wednesday evening at Gutterson Fieldhouse. With the result, Vermont falls to 3-9-2 on the campaign while Union rises to 6-9-0.

"I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but I can't be upset about the way we played," said Head Coach Jim Plumer. "We are playing the way we want; with the pace we want and are creating chances and playing good defense. The puck is simply not going in the net for us. We have to stick to the process here because we are playing good hockey. We have a big weekend ahead and we will be ready."
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Neither team found the back of the net in the opening period while Vermont led in shots on goal, eight to six.
• The defensive play continued into the second frame, seeing Vermont successfully kill off Union's lone powerplay. Jane Gervais blocked all 14 shots faced in the second frame, keeping the game scoreless heading into the final period.
• Vermont battled hard throughout the final frame, seeing shots on goal from 11 different Catamounts.
• The Garnet Chargers finally broke through, scoring the go-ahead goal with 2:20 remaining on the clock. A defensive zone turnover allowed Engelbert to break free on her own, sniping her shot to the backbar of the net, earning Union the 1-0 lead with just over two minutes to spare. Maddie Leaney was awarded an assist on the goal.

• Evelyne Blais-Savoie led a game high 11 won faceoffs, winning 11 of her 16 faceoffs taken.
• Lara Beecher and Kyla Bent each earned a team high three shots on goal. Bent tied her season high three shots on net for the third time this season.
• Grace Nelles tallied a game high three blocked shots.
• UVM outshot Union 28-25 with the biggest differential coming in the final period, when the Catamounts rallied off 11 shots to the Garnet Chargers five.
• Vermont successfully killed off both of Union's power play opportunities.
