COACH'S QUOTE
"We are very disappointed to not get a result tonight," said head coach
Kristi Huizenga. "Bryant had two chances and scored on one. We had 20 shots and converted none and sometimes that's the game. Credit to Bryant for packing in the box and making it difficult. We will bounce back and look forward to playing again on Sunday."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams battled in the first half with Vermont controlling much of the play outshooting the Bulldogs 9-4.
- Vermont created numerous chances in the first half, but their best shot came in the 38th minute when Sydney Remington was able to fire a shot toward the lower left corner of the net, but Kate McNeil (five saves) was able to make the stop.
- Aubrey Bough also created a chance for Vermont when she gathered the ball on her own on top of the 18-yard box and took a touch to beat her defender before firing a shot, that sailed just over the bar, in the 43rd minute.
- Bryant came out aggressive to start the second half and began the scoring with a goal from Catherine Bean in the 48th minute. Bean was able to corral a poor clearance from Vermont inside the box and fire a shot to lower right hand corner of the net that beat a diving Erin Murphy (seven saves) to put the Bulldogs up 1-0.
- Over the next 20 plus minutes the two teams went back-and-forth with Bryant holding a number of defenders back to clog up the Vermont chances.
- Vermont pressed forward in the final 15 minutes creating five shots that forced McNeil into two saves, while three wide shots just missed the mark. Kate Bossert had the best chance of the night for the Catamounts in the 83rd minute with a hard shot toward the upper left corner, but McNeil was able to turn the shot away. Karen Wallace also had a great chance for the Catamounts on a ricochet shot in the 84th minute, but her shot sailed just over the crossbar.
