COACH'S QUOTE
"It was great to get a win at home today and to finish several of our opportunities," said Head Coach
Kristi Huizenga. "We were not in the place we wanted to be at halftime, and we are proud of our second half response."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts got the scoring started in the 27th minute when Abbey Knobel streaked down the left hand wing and sent a cross into the box that Kate Bossert redirected to Alyssa Oviedo. Oviedo corralled the touch from Bossert and flicked the shot into the upper right hand corner to put Vermont up 1-0.
- 11 minutes later the Warriors answered back to tie the score at 1-1 with a breakaway from Isabella Keough off a through ball from Sydney Haskin. Keough's goal sent the game to halftime tied at one.
- Maddy Cronin broke the tie for the Catamounts in the 66th minute off a corner. First year Aubrey Bough sent the cross in and Cronin was able to settle the ball with her head and amidst the scramble used her right foot to send the ball into the back of the net for a 2-1 Vermont lead.
- Bailey Ayer helped the Catamounts seize control and never look back, scoring an unassisted goal in the 75th minute. On the corner she collected a failed clearance from Merrimack and was able to float a shot into the upper left hand corner over the outstretched goalkeeper.
- Just moments later Ayer continued the Vermont pressure sending a long through ball to Bossert in the 77th minute. Bossert was able to corral the ball at the top of the 18-yard box, beat a defender and turn past the goalkeeper to send a shot into the open net and give the game its final score of 4-1.
