BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont (8-7, 4-2 AE) capped off the 2023 regular season with a 13-5 victory over UMass Lowell (6-10, 0-6 AE) on Saturday afternoon at Virtue Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Maddie Erskine opened the scoring for the Catamounts with her 27th tally of the season 1:15 into the game. Claire Adelhelm quickly doubled the UVM lead on an assist from Jane Trauger before the 10-minute mark of the opening frame.
- Ballard put the Cats up 3-0 with 7:19 left in the first quarter when she converted on a pass from Vasile.
- Megan Brockbank ended the UVM run when she netted UMass Lowell's first goal of the afternoon with 6:20 left in the quarter, but Vasile countered with a goal less than 30 seconds later to take a 4-1 lead.
- Vermont's three-goal lead carried into the second quarter until Jade Catlin cut it to 4-2 on a free-position goal with 10:16 left in the frame.
- The Catamounts rattled off five-straight goals to close out the half up 9-2. Ballard began the scoring run with her second tally of the game and 100th career point. Ballard and Vasile each scored twice during the run.
- Charlotte Nevins closed out the opening half with her first collegiate goal to send Vermont into the break up seven.
- Grace and Audra Hansen scored back-to-back goals in the third quarter as the River Hawks cut the UVM lead to 9-4 with 4:29 left in the frame.
- Minutes later, Brittany Barton found Ciera Licare who put the Catamounts back up by six with 0:44 remaining in the quarter.
- Molly Shaw added one more goal for the River Hawks with 0:08 left in the third quarter.
- UVM scored three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter, with Vasile and Ballard each scoring their fourth tallies of the game. Erskine added her second goal with 1:26 left to close out the afternoon.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Carolyn Carrera recorded a game-high six caused turnovers to set an America East and UVM single-season record (56). The fifth-year senior passed Vermont alum, Kristen Millar (54), and Stony Brook's Brooke Gubitosi (54).
- Ballard matched a season-high with her four-goal outing, converting on all four shots taken.
- Vasile posted a game-high five points (4 goals, 1 assist). The senior directed seven shots on goal and pulled in four draw controls.
- Sophie McLaughlin (3 saves) and Jackie Shipp (5 saves) split time in goal for the Catamounts.
- With the win, Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to King Street Center as part of the Cats Win, Community Wins initiative. Since its inauguration in 2017, Vermont Mutual Insurance Group has donated over $80,000 to local non-profits through the Cats Win, Community Wins initiative.Â
