BURLINGTON, Vt. – Rutgers used a six-goal third quarter surge to defeat Vermont 15-7 Saturday Afternoon on Youth Day presented by Healthy Living and Alumnae Day from Virtue Field. Seven Scarlet Knights had two points or more in the non-conference win. Rutgers improved to 6-7 overall and Vermont falls to 5-7 and suffered their second home defeat of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a strong defensive start from both teams the Scarlet Knights opened the scoring with 5:43 to play in the first quarter. Ashley Campo scored her ninth goal of the season in transition to make 1-0.
- The Catamounts answered back in transition to tie things up with 4:26 left in the opening stanza. Carolyn Carrera found McKenzie Ballard in front of the Rutgers net and she ripped a shot top shelf to equalize.
- Split between the first and second quarter Rutgers went on a 3-0 run over 3:33 of game action to take a 4-1 lead. Gianna Eglauf's first goal of the season at the 12:30 mark of the second quarter made it a 4-0 Rutgers run and a 5-1 advantage.
- With 7:19 to play in the second UVM broke the Rutgers run with Kendall Traveis' fifth goal of the season to make it 5-2. After another Rutgers tally Jane Trauger found the back of the net to cut it back to a three-goal game with 3:38 to play in the half.
- Vermont's Ballard and Rutgers forward Cassidy Spilis exchanged goals in the final minute and the Scarlet Knights took a 7-4 lead into the break.
- Rutgers scored six unanswered tallies in the third quarter to seize control of the contest.
- Kristiana Strtak and Erin Kloostra (2) scored in the fourth quarter for the Catamounts but it wasn't enough to chase down Rutgers.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Saturday afternoon was also the Catamounts' annual Vanessa Cox #23 Memorial Game. A UVM Athletic Hall of Fame inductee in 2015, Cox was tragically killed in a car crash in February of 2015 at the age of 31. Graduate defender Carolyn Carrera wore the #23 in her honor today.
- Vermont's leading scorer Ava Vasile was disqualified in the first quarter with two yellow cards.
- Rutgers is now 5-0 this season against unranked opponents.
- This afternoon was the first meeting between Rutgers and Vermont since 1995. The Scarlet Knights now lead the series 2-1.
