CHASING SOME HISTORY
Vermont enters the weekend with a record of 20-10-2, making it just the second 20-win campaign in program history. If Vermont can defeat UNH once this weekend they'll tie the program regular season wins record with 21, if UVM sweeps it will be a new high-water mark at 22 wins.
Â
FOUR YEARS TO REMEMBER
This weekend will be the final regular season action for UVM's departing seniors –
Alex Gray,
Lilly Holmes,
Sini Karjalainen,
Corinne McCool,
Cam Morrissey,
Ellice Murphy,
Tynka Pátková and
Theresa Schafzahl. Over the last four years this octet has led UVM to new heights in Hockey East and nationally. The Catamounts have won a program record 58 games over their four-year stretch and were ranked in the top-10 for the first time in program history.
Â
STRETCH RUN MEANS STANDINGS WATCH
With two games to go in the regular season the jockeying in the standings is at a fever pitch at the top and bottom. UVM can finish no lower than third and will clinch second place with a point gained or a point lost by Providence this weekend. The Friars and Boston College will faceoff in a home-and-home set this weekend which will likely determine who is the three-seed in the upcoming tournament. Mathematically the Catamounts could host any of the teams currently fifth through tenth in the standings in their home quarterfinal on Saturday, February 25.
- Northeastern                          66 Pts
- Vermont                               51 Pts
- Providence                            46 Pts
- Boston College                      44 Pts

YOU DON'T WANT TO TRAIL VERMONT
The Catamounts are 14-0-1 this season when leading after the first period and 15-0-0 when leading after two periods. In nine of its 10 losses, this season Vermont has trailed after the opening period.
Â
LONG CHANGE, LONG PERIOD
The Catamounts have been most effective this season during the second period, when both teams have the long change. UVM has outscored its opponents 35-17 in the second and outshot teams 324-209.
Â
BEECHER NAMED HOCKEY EAST ROOKIE OF THE MONTH FOR JANUARY
Beecher had four goals and two assists in January helping the Catamounts solidify their top-15 ranking in the country and second place position in Hockey East. Beecher scored the game-winning goal on January 6 against the Friars. UVM won three straight games against the Friars and Beecher scored in all three contests.
Â
"What a great month for Lara and it's a tremendous credit to her to receive this honor," said Head CoachÂ
Jim Plumer. "She scored some key goals for us against Providence and she has developed into a threat every time she's on the ice. She has a bright future with us and we are looking forward to her being a key player down the stretch of this regular season and into the playoffs."
Â
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
UNH enters the weekend in eighth place in Hockey East with 31 points, they sit two points back of Boston University and three behind Maine. UNH is guaranteed to finish between sixth and eighth place in the standings. A sixth-place finish would mean a bye into the quarterfinals.
UNH is 4-3-2 in Hockey East play in 2023, including a win over No. 15 UConn 3-0 on January 29. Last weekend they topped Vermont in a shootout on the road before falling the next day in a shootout at Merrimack Sophomore forward Kira Juodikis leads the Wildcats in scoring with 16 goals and nine assists for 25 points. The Catamounts held her in check a week ago at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
SERIES HISTORY
The Catamounts are 17-30-7 in the all-time series with the Wildcats as the conference foes square off for the 55th and 56th time this weekend. Vermont is 3-2-1 against the Wildcats over the last three seasons including a 1-1-0 record at the Whittemore Center.
