Â
BEST 10-GAME START IN 67 SEASONS
The Catamounts last started 8-2 or better in 1956-57 when Vermont opened its campaign with a 9-1 mark. UVM has won at least eight of its first 10 games just eight times in program history.
Â
PRESEASON FAVORITES
Saturday's matchup features a pair of conference preseason favorites, with Colgate earning a unanimous selection in the Patriot League. The Catamounts have already defeated two conference favorites this season, earning victories over the CAA's College of Charleston (W, 73-64) and the Ivy League's Yale (W, 66-65).
Â
TWO OF THE WINNINGEST MID-MAJORS
Vermont and Colgate have combined for nine conference titles since 2016-17. Only four mid-majors have made more NCAA Tournament appearances (4) than the two schools during that stretch.
Â
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
Colgate enters Saturday's game with wins in three of its last five games, including a dominant victory over Binghamton (W, 84-49) on Nov. 29. The Raiders and Cats have played one mutual opponent – Colgate lost to Yale 68-50 on Nov. 17. Braeden Smith leads the offense, averaging 13.9 points and 5.7 assists in nine games. The sophomore guard has registered an assist on 45.2% of his team's possessions when he is on the floor – the third highest rate in the country. Keegan Records, a 6-10 forward, was named the Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year, and has averaged 9.4 points and a team-high 7.4 rebounds.
Â
INSIDE THE SERIES
UVM and Colgate meet for the third straight season and 36th time in series history. The Catamounts are 12-6 at home against the former North Atlantic Conference foe.
Aaron Deloney led the Cats to a 78-68 victory over the Raiders at Patrick Gym in 2021-22.
Robin Duncan was the leader a season ago with 15 points in a 73-72 victory on the road.
Matt Veretto had 14 points on 4-for-9 shooting from beyond the arc.
Â
CATS AT HOME
Vermont has won 16 straight games at Patrick Gym, which is the seventh-longest home winning streak in the country. UVM is 34-1 at home since the start of the 2021-22 season, and are 229-51 (.818) since 2002-03.
Â
DELONEY VS. COLGATE
Aaron Deloney has averaged 15.5 points per game in two games against Colgate, which is his second-highest average against a non-conference opponent that he's faced multiple times. The guard led UVM with 18 points in 18 minutes to defeat Colgate 78-68 in 2021-22.
Â
3PT HEAVY
Forty four percent of Vermont's points have come from three pointers, which ranks No. 2 nationally. UVM has made 10 three pointers or more in seven games this season, and ranks No. 9 in three-pointers per game (10.9)
