COACH'S QUOTE
"A tough outcome today against a Maine team that's had our number this year and is playing well," Head Coach
Jim Plumer said. "A couple of poor plays by us in the first period cost us two goals and we were playing catch up the rest of the way. It was one of our better territorial performances but we simply couldn't finish enough pucks. Back to the grind tomorrow at UNH."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Maine jumped out to an early lead 7:27 into the first period. Kennedy Little connected with Mira Seregely in their own defensive zone. Seregely skated through the neutral zone, deked at the blue line then fired a snapshot from the left faceoff circle. Her attempt deflected off the right post and in to put Maine up 1-0.
- The Black Bears doubled their lead 16:59 into the opening frame. Alyssa Wruble redirected a Vermont pass to Rahel Enzler, creating a breakaway for Maine. Enzler skated into the slot and delivered a backhanded shot to extend the Maine lead to two.
- Lara Beecher cut the Maine lead in half 4:20 into the second period. Kaylee Lewis delivered a pass to Hailey Eikos who protected the puck while skating through the neutral zone. Eikos dropped a pass back to Beecher at the right faceoff circle who rifled the puck bar down to tally her fifth goal of the season.
- Maine regained a two-goal lead 11:37 into the third period. Jamie Grinder forced a Vermont turnover in the neutral zone causing a two-on-one rush. Seregely made a cross crease pass in the slot to Enzler who tucked in her second score of the game.
- Vermont scored at the final buzzer to decrease the deficit to 3-2. Beecher released a pass from behind the net that connected with Lewis in the slot. Lewis one timed the puck into the top left corner of the net for her third goal of the season.
