COACH'S QUOTE
"It was nice to get a win on the road and a shutout tonight," coach Huizenga said. "Olivia had a fantastic finish and it was unfortunate we were not able to convert on a couple of our other close chances, but ultimately a solid team performance."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both Vermont and LIU were stout defensively to start the game, holding each other scoreless for over 30 minutes. The best chances for either team coming from an LIU corner less than one minute into the game, and a Vermont shot on goal by Jill Brody coming with a little over 37 minutes remaining in the first half.
- Vermont packed the midfield early and often, creating a lot of chances in the first half. Vermont's consistent pressure resulted in a 17-10 shot differential for the game.
- Olivia White got the action started with her first goal of the season coming in the 31st minute. Sydney Remington received the ball inside the 18-yard box off the crossbar on her own shot and passed it back to White at the top of the box. Olivia White put a first-time strike on net that snuck in just off the right goalpost and past the diving keeper for the only goal of the match.
- The LIU pressure intensified in the second half leading to multiple early shots on goal. The best chance for the Sharks came in the 66th minute when Kendra Oldroyd was taken down in the box for a penalty. Erin Murphy was able to slide to her right and save the penalty kick to secure the Cats lead at 1-0.
- Vermont continued the strain on LIU throughout second half, with an 11-6 shot advantage, including a shot from Tessa Weiss that went careening off the crossbar with under seven minutes to go in the game.
