COACH'S QUOTE
"Today was really disappointing," Head Coach
Jim Plumer said. "Clearly we didn't prepare the team to play at the level required. We had a good second period and played with a lot of energy but it's a 60 minute game and we didn't compete for the full 60. I'm glad we have one more weekend before break to try to improve."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Huskies opened the scoring on a two-on-one rush in the opening minutes on the power play. For the second straight game Chloé Aurard centered a pass that deflected off a Vermont defender's skate and found the back of the net. Alina Mueller assisted on the tally which came 1:29 in.
- Northeastern doubled its advantage with 8:07 left in the opening frame, again with a fortuitous deflection. Katy Knoll fired a wrist shot in the slot and it redirected off another UVM defender and the puck fluttered to the top corner to make it 2-0 with another power play marker.
- 8:21 into the second period the Catamounts cut the Huskies lead in half. Theresa Schafzahl kept the puck alive along the boards and pushed the puck to Natálie Mlýnková. Mlýnková fed a cross-ice feed to McCool and McCool fired a high-hard shot that hit Northeastern's Gwyneth Philips in the shoulder. The rebound stayed loose in front and Mlýnková slotted it home.
- Maureen Murphy reestablished the Huskies two-goal edge 2:22 later with her 12th goal of the season. In transition, she snuck a shot inside the post.
- 6:43 into the third period another funny bounce went Northeastern's way. Knoll tried to center a feed in front of the Vermont net and the puck deflected right back to Knoll behind the net. Knoll wrapped around the net and stuffed it home before UVM's Jessie McPherson could reach the post.
- Mia Brown closed out the scoring for the Huskies with a buzzer beater. She one-timed home an errant Vermont pass with a tenth of a second left in the contest.
