COACH'S QUOTE
"There's a lot to learn from a game like this," Head Coach Jim Plumer said. "Colgate is an excellent team and was the better team tonight. We had moments where we played well and had chances but we are going to have to sharper with our puck management and our decision-making tomorrow. I liked how hard we battled and that it was a one-goal game going into the third period and we will build on that."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Vermont opened the scoring with 8:22 left in the first period becoming the first team to score on Colgate all season. Sini Karjalainen skated along the blue line and dropped the puck to her defensive partner Krista Parkkonen. Parkkonen fired a shot through traffic that was initially stopped by Colgate's goaltender but the rebound came right to Corinne McCool who tapped it home into the empty net.
  • The Raiders responded just 33 seconds later. Kas Betinol redirected a shot from the slot that trickled past UVM's Jessie McPherson.
  • Allyson Simpson scored the game-winner with 37 seconds left in the first period. She rifled a shot bar down from a tight angle for her first goal of the season.
  • The teams played a very even second period with the Raiders outshooting Vermont 8-7.
  • With 4:08 to play in the middle frame the Catamounts were thwarted on an excellent chance by the stick of a Colgate defender. Theresa Schafzahl and Natálie Mlynková broke into the Raiders zone on the rush. Mlynková dished over to Schafzahl and her Theresa's one-timer was stopped but the puck was sitting in the crease for a tap-in. However, the Raiders' Sydney Bard cleared it before Mlynková could get to it.
  • Danielle Serdachny struck 107 seconds into the third period for Colgate to give the Raiders a two-goal cushion and Neena Brick closed out the scoring with another insurance marker with 4:52 to play.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Graduate forward Corinne McCool has nine points this season and has registered a point in six of the seven games this year.
  • The Catamounts didn't commit any penalties Friday night. It was their first game without a penalty since November 20, 2021 against Merrimack.
