Jill Brody's goal in the 89th-minute lifted Vermont (1-0, 0-0 AE) over Merrimack (0-2, 0-0 NEC) to a season-opening 4-3 win on Sunday afternoon at Virtue Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts offense clicked almost instantly with Ella Bankert netting the first goal of the 2021 campaign in the 2nd minute. Cricket Basa was credited with the assist on the UVM marker. Bankert found Basa later on in the opening half as the captains connected for another goal in the 22nd minute.
- Merrimack's Hallie Shiers answered with goals in the 32nd and 46th minutes to tie the game up at 2-2.
- Brody scored the first of her two goals in the 58th minute, converting on a rebound and firing the ball into the top left corner. Vermont held a 3-2 lead until Molly Murnane erased the Warriors deficit in the 67th minute.
- In the 89th minute, Alyssa Oviedo found Brody in the 18-yard box, where she fired a kick into the lower left corner to seal the Catamounts' victory.
