COACH'S QUOTE
"This was a fun matchup for us tonight against a very good Princeton team," Head Coach
Kristi Huizenga said. "We were able to possess for large stretches and it was a great test and experience for us on this stage. We are proud of what we have accomplished this season and will be hungry to return next year. We had an amazing turnout from our alumnae and families which made for a great atmosphere."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gee opened the scoring for the Tigers in the 13th minute. From near the sideline Alexis Hiltunen served a volley into the 18. America East goalkeeper of the year Lydia Kessel came for the ball and Princeton's Heather MacNab was able to pop the ball straight in the air. Gee won an aerial battle with a Vermont defender on the line and knocked it just in for her seventh goal of the season.
- Just 6:07 later Gee struck again to double the Princeton advantage. From 30 yards out Gee took a free kick for the Tigers that found the top corner through traffic without any Catamounts or Tigers getting a touch. For Gee, it marked her third two-goal game of the season.
- Vermont's best chance to cut into the deficit came late with the Catamounts substitutes making their usual impact. Under pressure from Tessa Weiss a Princeton defender played a ball back to their keeper Barbara Grace. Karen Wallace beat Grace to the spot just outside the 18 and Grace took Wallace out on the play in the 41st minute. Grace received a yellow card and UVM setup for a dangerous free kick. Ella Bankert took the free kick and just missed high over the bar.
- Grace made three saves in the second half to preserve a clean sheet for Princeton. It was her seventh clean sheet in the last eight games.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- In her last contest in the green and gold UVM's Lydia Kessel made eight saves.
- UVM finished the season with 12 wins, tied for the second-most of any season by the Catamounts. Vermont won 14 games in 1979 and 12 in 1996.
