COACH'S QUOTE
"I'm very pleased with the way we played against an excellent team, especially in the second and third periods," Head Coach
Jim Plumer said. "The team really responded to the challenge and I loved the speed with which we played. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's rematch."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Northeastern opened the scoring on the power play 12:04 into the first period. Brooke Hobson scored her third goal of the season from the top of the slot to give the Huskies the lead. As she skated to her left she fired a shot to the right that just went inside the post. Skylar Fontaine and Maureen Murphy earned assists on the tally.
- With 4:04 left in the first the Huskies doubled their advantage as Murphy scored her 10th goal of the campaign. Northeastern kept the cycle on in the Vermont zone for almost a minute before Murphy skated into the slot and wired a wrist shot just under Jessie McPherson's blocker to make it 2-0.
- Just 29 seconds later the Huskies lead grew to three off a fortuitous bounce in front of the Vermont net. Megan Carter fired a point shot towards the net that deflected off a Vermont defenders' stick and in.
- The Catamounts poured on the pressure to start the second period, posting 10 shots in the opening five minutes of the middle frame including five on the power play but UVM couldn't solve Frankel. She made 14 saves in the second period and eight more in the third.
