COACH'S QUOTE
"Much like last week the result today was a product of an extremely focused week by our entire team," Head Coach
Kristi Huizenga said. "Hartford has a great team and some dangerous forwards so to keep a clean sheet on the road was huge. The game was full of big moments that we came out on the right end of today."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vermont opened the scoring in the sixth minute. Alyssa Oviedo forced a turnover in the Hartford end and taking the space given to her she setup a strike from just outside the box. Oviedo's attempt was just under the bar and Hartford goaltender Maia Perez made the initial save but was unable to control the ball. As she bobbled it Basa pounced on the rebound and tapped it home for her fourth goal of the season.
- Under two minutes later Hartford earned a penalty kick. Imani Jenkins stole the ball from a UVM defender in the box and as she went in on UVM's Lydia Kessel Jenkins was taken down on the play.
- Third in scoring in America East, Jenkins elected to take the penalty she earned. Fully outstretched Kessel dove to her left and robbed Jenkins to keep the Vermont lead intact.
- Kessel made five saves in the game to earn her third straight clean sheet.
- O'Donnell put the game out of reach for Vermont with her second goal of the season in the 87th minute. In transition Karen Wallace played a through ball into the box. UVM's Bailey Ayer was making a run and as the Hartford defense closed on her the ball came to O'Donnell who one-touched it home to seal the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- This afternoon was Vermont's first win over Hartford since 2012. It was the first win over the Hawks on the road since 2005.
