TOBINKSI BECOMES THE ONE AND ONLY
Freshman
Rasmus Tobinski added to his collection on Monday with his third weekly award of the season. He was named America East Offensive Player and Co-Rookie of the Week – becoming the first Catamount to receive three conference weekly accolades in the same season. He netted three goals in a split 1-1 week for the Catamounts. The Kiel, Germany native opened the week with a goal at Siena last Monday, then capped off his recent stretch with two goals in a 3-0 clean sheet against Merrimack last Saturday.
CONFERENCE OPENERS
In the last two decades, the Cats have been very successful in their conference opener. Since 1998, UVM owns a 13-7-1 mark in the first game on the league docket and have won two out of the last three openers. In the last decade, Vermont's offense has welcomed the conference slate with open arms by outscoring its opponents 22-9 with four clean sheets.
REVISITING THE AMERICA EAST PRESEASON POLL
In this year's America East Preseason Coaches' Poll, UVM and Stony Brook were picked to finish in the top-five. The Seawolves received three first-place votes and tallied 40 points at No. 2 while the Catamounts came in at No. 5 with 28 points.
SCOUTING STONY BROOK
The Seawolves enter the weekend with a 2-5-1 record and have dropped their last two matches to Yale (L, 2-0) last Saturday and Rider (L, 2-1) on Tuesday. Jared Dass sits second among the league's top scorers with five goals, trailing only Tobinski. The senior striker has netted a goal in three out of his last four games. After Dass, the Seawolves have used a balanced attack as eight different players have registered a point. Mark Irvine has doled out two assists while Trausti Birgisson, Danny Jara, and Birkir Gudmundsson has scored one goal apiece. Netminder Edmond Kaiser has posted a 1.78 goals-against average in six starts.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The Catamounts have enjoyed a good amount of success against the Seawolves. UVM owns an 11-5-2 all-time edge and the Cats are currently in the midst of a seven-game unbeaten streak. Last year, Vermont handed Stony Brook its first conference loss with a 2-1 win at Virtue Field.
