COACH'S QUOTE
"Soccer can be a brutal game," head coach
Rob Dow said. "We produced more than enough chances to win but Siena capitalized on its chances and won the game."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints struck first in the 10th minute when Alejandro Riquelme got a friendly bounce off a deflection. Aaron Martin booted a corner kick to the far side of the box, then Riquelme fired a shot that deflected off a defender and into the net.
- The Catamounts answered back in the 23rd minute with Alex Nagy's first goal of the season. The sophomore worked his way through three defenders and drove the equalizer into the top right corner of the net from seven yards out.
- Siena added its second score late in the first half. From the left side of the box, Samuel Schwarz chipped a ball over a defender to himself and finished with a line drive to the far post.
- Vermont found the equalizer once again in the 63rd minute. Rasmus Tobinski netted his fourth goal of the season with a shot from six yards out after taking advantage of multiple deflections.
- The Saints scored the decisive goal of the match six minutes later. Riquelme sent a through ball towards the top of the box for Jesse Rodrigues who finished with a low shot into the bottom left corner of the net.
GAME NOTES
- Tobinski has scored a goal in three straight games.
- The defeat snapped a three-game winning streak against the Saints. However, the Catamounts still hold a 10-2 edge in the all-time series.
