SCOUTING THE WILDCATS (5-4-2, 4-3-1 HEAW)
New Hampshire enters the series in second place in Hockey East after games last weekend against No. 7 Boston College (L, 5-2) and Holy Cross (W, 3-0). The Wildcats have played three ranked opponents so far with one victory coming over No. 10 Boston University 4-2.
Â
Seniors Taylor Wenczkowski (3 goals, 9 assists), Carlee Turner (5 goals, 6 assists), and Meghara McManus (6 goals, 4 assists) pace the UNH offense as the only Wildcats with double-digit points. McManus has the team lead in goals while Wenczkowski has the most assists.
Â
Sophomore Ava Boutilier has played the bulk of the season in goal for the Wildcats with a .917 save percentage and 2.43 goals against average for a 5-4-1 record. Boutilier registered her third shutout of the season in Sunday's win over Holy Cross.
Â
INSIDE THE SERIES
The Catamounts are 13-27-6 in the all-time series with the Wildcats as the conference foes square off for the 47th time in history Friday.
Â
Vermont has a 2-2-1 mark in the last five meetings at the Whittemore Center. UVM took a 2-1 victory over the Wildcasts last season in Durham thanks in part to
Ève-Audrey Picard's game-winning goal.
Theresa Schafzahl registered her first career point with an assist in that game.
Â
New Hampshire visited Gutterson Fieldhouse earlier this season and skated to a 3-3 tie with the Catamounts.
Lilly Holmes netted a shorthanded goal while
Corinne McCool and
Ali O'Leary capitalized on separate power plays.
Â
STRONG OCTOBER
The Catamounts opened up the first month of the season with a 4-1-4 mark overall, their fewest losses through nine games in program history. The nine-game start is Vermont's second best all-time with a .667 winning percentage. The 2014-15 team had a .722 winning percentage through nine games with a 6-2-1 record. Vermont's power play sits atop the Hockey East rankings at 28.3% while its 3.67 goals per game is second in the conference.
Â
OFFENSE À LA MAUDE
Sophomore defenseman
Maude Poulin-Labelle has racked up 12 points on six goals and six assists through nine games this season. The blueliner is second nationally in goals by a defenseman and fourth in points. Poulin-Labelle leads all Hockey East defenders in goals and power-play points (7) and is tied with teammate
Sini Karjalainen and Boston College sophomore Cayla Barnes for points. The Sherbrooke, Québec native has already surpassed her point total from last season and is the only defenseman in the nation to record a hat trick.
LAST TIME OUT
Maude Poulin-Labelle registered the first hat trick by a UVM blueliner in program history as the Catamounts defeated Dartmouth 4-2 at Gutterson Fieldhouse (Oct. 29).
Ève-Audrey Picard was the other Catamount to score when she netted her second of the season in the first period. Poulin-Labelle's hat trick was the first by a Catamount since Picard tallied three goals against Boston University on February 2, 2018.
