AMERICA EAST WEEKLY AWARDS
After earning two wins last week, UVM collected two America East weekly awards on Monday. Senior
Jon Arnar Barðdal was named Offensive Player of the Week and senior netminder
Aron Runarsson was tabbed as the Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Barðdal had an impressive week with eight points on four goals. The Garðabær, Iceland native recorded a hat trick at Holy Cross, then capped off the week with a goal against UMBC. Runarsson set a career high with 12 saves against the Retrievers. The victory helped the senior goalie climb to No. 3 on UVM's all-time list with his 28th-career win.
PLAYOFF SEEDING SCENARIOS
Vermont has clinched at least a top-three seed in the upcoming conference tournament. With a win, the Cats can claim the regular season championship and the top overall seed. A tie combined with an UAlbany loss will result in a No. 2 seed. The Green and Gold can land as the No. 3 seed with a loss to UNH plus a win by the Great Danes.
CATS VS. RANKED OPPONENTS
The Catamounts will play their first nationally-ranked opponent of the 2019 season. UVM has two wins under its belt against teams in the national rankings in the last decade – a 3-1 victory against No. 18 UMBC in 2009, then the Green and Gold took down 14th-ranked Stanford a year later with a 2-1 overtime thriller in Burlington.
SAME BOOK, DIFFERENT CHAPTER
Two years ago, first-year head coach
Rob Dow guided the Cats to a 1-1 draw at No. 20 UNH and won the program's third America East regular season championship. Barðdal broke a scoreless tie in the 40th minute but New Hampshire's Conrad Cheng answered with the equalizer 16 seconds later.
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE
The Wildcats, ranked No. 18 in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll, is one of the best statistical teams in the country. UNH has the third-best goals against average (0.38) and fourth-highest shutout percentage (.667) in the nation. New Hampshire also sits at No. 19 in scoring offense (2.13) and points per game (6.27). Offensively, Antonio Colacci has notched the third-most points (19) in the conference. In his last five games, the senior has tallied 10 points, including a four-assist effort against UMass Lowell on Oct. 19. Fabian Lutz follows with 12 points on four goals and four assists. Goalie Alejandro Robles has only surrendered five goals all season and boasts a league-best 0.27 GAA, .875 save percentage, and he is tied with Runarsson for the top spot with six clean sheets.
