GREAT START
UVM has jumped out to its first 3-0 start since 2002-03. The 3-0 start is only the fourth hot start of its kind since 1977-78. In addition to 2002-03, the Cats cruised to three wins to begin the 1990-91 campaign and won their first four games of the 1977-78 season.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE CATS
A Catamount has recorded a double-double in each game to begin the season.
Anthony Lamb logged a double-double at St. Bonaventure (15 points, 10 rebounds) and against Boston U (15 points, 16 rebounds) on Wednesday.
Ryan Davis recorded his first collegiate double-double at Bucknell (16 points, 10 rebounds) last weekend.
EMPIRE STATE OF MIND
Vermont is 27-1 against New York schools since the start of the 2016-17 season. The run includes non-conference victories over Marist, Hofstra, Siena, and St. Bonaventure while topping league rivals UAlbany, Binghamton, and Stony Brook. The lone loss was to the Bonnies in 2017.
REVISITING THE JULIUS ERVING AWARD WATCH LIST
Saturday's matchup will feature two members of the 2020 Julius Erving Award Watch List, an award that recognizes the top small forward in college basketball.
Anthony Lamb was one of three mid-major players to make the list and St. John's LJ Figueroa was one of four Big East players to receive the honor.
SCOUTING ST. JOHN'S
Like the Catamounts, the Red Storm head into the weekend with an unblemished 3-0 record. St. John's has the 26th-highest scoring offense in the country at 90.0 points per game. On the defensive end of the floor, the Red Storm rank No. 8 nationally in total blocks (21) and No. 26 in turnovers forced (20.3). Figueroa has dropped 20.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.0 assists through the first three games of the season. The 6-6 forward netted 25 points, canned 5-of-9 long range shots, and collected eight boards against New Hampshire on Tuesday night. Mustapha Heron stands alongside Figueroa with a 20.0 scoring average. The senior guard has shot 47.5% from the floor and 66.7% from behind the arc. Under the direction of new head coach Mike Anderson, St. John's was picked ninth in the Big East Preseason Coaches' Poll.
CATS VS. THE BIG EAST
Saturday will be the first ever meeting between Vermont and St. John's. The Catamounts have one win under their belt against a current Big East member – a 25-19 victory over Villanova on Feb. 12, 1924 in Burlington. Historically, the Green and Gold will try to beat either a former or current Big East team for the first time since 2009 when UVM took down Rutgers 77-71 in the Legends Classic.
