FINAL SCORE (OT): No. 3 Hartford 3, No. 2 Vermont 2
BURLINGTON, Vt. – The second-seeded Vermont men's soccer team suffered a heart-breaking 3-2 defeat to third-seeded Hartford in the America East Semifinal on Wednesday. The Catamounts end their season with an 11-6-1 overall record.

"Regardless of the outcome, I want to thank our seniors and their contributions to this program," head coach Rob Dow said. "They won a couple regular season championships and had double-digit win seasons each year. They were excellent teammates and we are indebted to that group."
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Hawks netted the first goal of the match near the midway point of the first half. Sergi Martinez marched up the right side of the field and lined a low cross back to the top of the box. The Catamounts tried to clear the ball away but Hartford's Jovante Etienne stole the ball and drove the go-ahead score into the bottom left corner of the net.
• Hartford doubled its lead in the 40th minute when Martinez scored a goal of his own. Jordan Koduah lofted a feed towards the far post where Rasmus Karlsson worked the goal line and dished a pass to Martinez, who tapped the insurance goal inside of the near post.
• Jon Arnar Barðdal answered with 1:35 left in the period to cut the deficit in half. From midfield, Garrett Lillie booted a feed towards the box for the Icelandic senior, who worked his way through two defenders and buried a line drive into the left side of the net.
• The Catamounts fired off 19 shots in the second half but found the equalizer in the 79th minute. Frosti Brynjólfsson chipped a corner kick to the near post where Adrian Gahabka headed a ball toward the far post and Lillie bent down low and knocked the ball into the open net.
• The Hawks scored the game-winning goal with 2:34 left in the extra session. Koduah lofted a kick from midfield into left side of the box. Martinez directed a header into the center of the six-yard box and Nyrik Antoine drove the decisive score into the left side of the net.

GAME NOTES

• Aron Runarsson finished the match with three saves. He wraps up his collegiate career with the third-most career victories (28) and ninth-most clean sheets (13) in school history.
• The 2019 campaign was highlighted by an America East regular season co-championship, the fifth consecutive season with 10-plus wins, and the 10th straight year with a conference tournament bid.
• The match was the final regular season contest for Vermont's seven seniors -  Ívar Örn Árnason, Jon Arnar Barðdal, Adrian Gahabka, Patrick McCue, Aron Runarsson, Lucas Shaw, and Arnar Steinn Hansson.
