ROAD TRIP RECAP
The Catamounts opened the regular season with road victories at St. Bonaventure (W, 61-59) and Bucknell (W, 66-63). The 59 points allowed are the fewest in a UVM season opener since 1985-86 when the Cats rolled to a 79-50 victory against RPI. The Green and Gold are off to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2002-03 and are one of three Division I teams with a 2-0 road record - Rider and William & Mary.
DOUBLE-DOUBLES
In both games of the road trip, a Catamount produced a double-double.
Anthony Lamb dropped 15 points and 10 rebounds on the Bonnies, then
Ryan Davis logged his first collegiate double-double with 16 points and 10 boards at Bucknell.
AND THE VOTE IS IN
The Catamounts received one vote in this week's Associated Press (AP) Top 25 Poll. It marked the third time in the last four seasons that UVM has earned at least one vote in the weekly national poll.
MID-MAJOR WEEKLY RANKINGS
Vermont claimed three top-10 mid-major rankings this week. The Cat stayed locked in at No. 4 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll but moved up to No. 6 in the MidMajorMadness.com 'The Other Top 25 Poll'. UVM was also voted No. 7 in The Athletic's Mid-Major Top 10 rankings.
SCOUTING BOSTON UNIVERSITY
The Terriers carry a 1-1 record into Patrick Gym with a season-opening 72-67 loss to Northeastern and a 91-63 victory over SUNY-Polytechnic. Walter Whyte posted a team-high 23 points against Northeastern. The sophomore shot 8-of-14 from the field, then added 23 points in the win over SUNY-Polytechnic to earn Patriot League Player of the Week honors. Alex Vilarino also produced double figures against the Huskies with 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Coming into the season, the Terriers were picked to finish fifth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll. BU brings back senior Max Mahoney who averaged a team-high 16.5 points and 6.6 rebounds last season. The 6-8 forward was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Wednesday's home opener is the 101st all-time meeting between the two programs. The Cats and Terriers will square off for the second straight season after UVM earned a 78-72 win in Beantown last year. Despite BU leading the all-time series 45-55, Vermont has reached the win column in 12 out of the last 17 head-to-head matchups. The former conference foes used to meet twice during the regular season while the Terriers were a member of the America East Conference from 1979-2013.
