SENIOR DAY PRESENTED BY THE UVM ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Before the match, Vermont will honor its seven seniors with a Senior Day celebration presented by the UVM Alumni Association. The Class of 2020 includes
Ívar Örn Árnason,
Jon Arnar Barðdal,
Adrian Gahabka,
Patrick McCue,
Aron Runarsson,
Lucas Shaw, and
Arnar Steinn Hansson. The group has collectively won 45 career games – the fifth-most by a UVM graduating class.
BARÐDAL WITH THE HAT TRICK
In Tuesday's non-conference finale at Holy Cross, Barðdal netted his first career hat trick. He became the first Catamount to record a hat trick since
Brian Wright '17 did so against Rider in the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
OFFENSIVE ONSLAUGHT IN WORCESTER
The five-goal output was the highest single-game total by Vermont since netting five goals against Stony Brook in 2008. The win also snapped a three-game skid in non-conference finales.
Frosti Brynjólfsson was credited with an assist for the fourth straight match. The freshman has logged 10 points in his last six outings.
DOUBLE DIGIT WINS
The Catamounts have reached the 10-win mark for the fifth consecutive year, extending the program's second-longest streak. The Green and Gold racked up double-digit wins from 1986-93 and won two America East titles. Similar to the previous run, UVM's current streak also includes back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament – 2015 and 2016.
SCOUTING UMBC
The Retrievers have the third-highest scoring offense in the league this season with 56 points (18 goals, 20 assists) behind New Hampshire and Vermont. On the defensive end of the field, UMBC also ranks third in the conference with 17 goals allowed. Ryan Becher boasts a team-best four goals and sits in an eighth-place tie on the America East goals list. Colin Weyant is also in the mix with four assists, the seventh-best total among the league's top setup men. Between the pipes, Quantrell Jones has stopped the third-most shots (48) and holds the fifth-lowest goals-against average (1.19) in America East.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Saturday's matinee is a rematch of last year's America East Quarterfinal where the Retrievers edged the Cats 5-4 on penalty kicks. In the all-time series, Vermont leads the way with a 9-5-1 mark and has not lost to UMBC in the last six meetings (5-0-1). The Green and Gold are 5-1-2 against the Black and Gold in Burlington.
