WOMEN'S HOCKEY NOTEBOOK
The Vermont Catamounts host former ECAC foe, St. Lawrence, for a two-game home-opening series Thursday (Oct. 10) and Friday (Oct. 11) at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Both games are scheduled for 6 p.m. puck drops.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS
St. Lawrence visits the Catamounts with a 1-2-1 (0-0-0 ECAC) mark after starting the season with four games on the road. The Saints skated to a 4-1 win and 5-5 tie last weekend against the Hockey East's New Hampshire Wildcats. The 2018-19 campaign saw St. Lawrence finish with a 14-15-7 (9-7-6 ECAC) record, but were ousted by Princeton in the ECAC Quarterfinals.
Rookies Anna Segedi (5 goals, 3 assists) and Shailynn Snow (1 goal, 5 assists) pace the SLU offense while also being the only skaters with double-digit shot totals. Segedi's eight points are fifth-most in the nation. Senior Kalie Grant had the most points last year by a St. Lawrence returner with 20 points on seven goals and 13 assists.
Three goalies have seen action for the Saints with sophomore Jaime Rainville getting the edge in minutes (96:15) over Lucy Morgan (83:38) and Caitlin Whitehead (59:55). Morgan has a .944 SV% and 2.15 GAA, but Whitehead has been credited with the only win of the season.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Thursday's game marks the 15th all-time meeting between Vermont and St. Lawrence. The Catamounts are winless against the Saints in the previous 14 games dating back to 2001. Vermont last played St. Lawrence in a home-and-home series in the 2016-17 season when the Cats fell 3-1 on the road and 2-1 the following day at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The Saints came to Burlington last season for the 2018 Windjammer Classic, but did not play the Catamounts.
LAST WEEKEND AT RIT
The Catamounts opened up the 2019-20 regular season with a 1-0-1 start on the road against the RIT Tigers. Vermont began the weekend series with a 3-1 victory over RIT on goals by
Val Caldwell,
Ève-Audrey Picard, and
Corinne McCool.
Blanka Škodová stopped 16 of 17 shots in the victory.
Saturday's 4-4 tie saw a three-point game by
Maude Poulin-Labelle (3 assists) and two-point games by
Sini Karjalainen (1 goal, 1 assist),
Theresa Schafzahl (1 goal, 1 assist), and McCool (1 goal, 1 assist). Caldwell found the back of the net on the power play for the second consecutive game while Škodová and
Natalie Ferenc combined for 16 saves.
TD BANK STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Sophomore forward
Corinne McCool was named TD Bank Student-Athlete of the Week, for the period ending October 6. McCool scored the game-winning goal in Friday's win over RIT and netted the game-tying goal with 10:31 left in the third period the following day. In total, the West Roxbury, Massachusetts native registered a team-high four points in the weekend series.
DUNKIN' WOMEN'S HOCKEY SHOWCASE
Taylor Willard '18 was named Player of the Game for Team Knight on Saturday (Oct. 5) in the Dunkin' Women's Hockey Showcase in Hudson, New Hampshire. The volunteer assistant coach former UVM captain had two assists and a plus-3 rating in that game to earn the award. Willard skated with former Montreal Canadiennes teammate Hillary Knight in the weekend showcase, which is a part of the Dream Gap Tour, presented by the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association. Olympic gold medalist Amanda Pelkey '15 skated for Team Flanagan while former UVM captain,
Rachael Ade '17 skated for Team Lamoureux in the showcase.
