RALLY AGAINST CANCER GAME
Save the date for our annual Rally Against Cancer game, presented by Inspired Closets, on Saturday (Jan. 19). Vermont will host Binghamton with a 7 p.m. opening tip. The Catamounts will be wearing special edition lavender jerseys this year - the color that represents the fight against all cancers. Fans are encouraged to wear lavender and fill out a "I Rally For" sign as a part of a pregame ceremony to show that no one has to battle cancer alone. Jerseys will be auctioned off following the game and the proceeds will benefit the UVM Cancer Center.
CATS ENTER THE MID-MAJOR POLLS
The Green and Gold entered a pair of mid-major polls this week. The Cats climbed to No. 23 in the
CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25, then edged Old Dominion at No. 25 in
MidMajorMadness.com's The Other Top-25 Poll.
CATS SWEEP THE AMERICA EAST WEEKLY AWARDS
UVM swept the America East weekly awards on Monday.
Anthony Lamb was named Player of the Week for the fifth time this season and
Robin Duncan was tabbed as the Rookie of the Week. Lamb averaged a near double-double with 16.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game in a 2-0 week for the Cats. He shot 60.0% (12-for-20) from the floor and denied three shots. Duncan collected his first career weekly honor. He posted 10.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists per game and shot 57.0% (4-of-7) in the two conference outings. The freshman was also nearly perfect at the charity stripe after hitting 12-of-13 attempts.
13-4 STARTS
The Catamounts are off to a 13-4 start for the first time since 2004-05 and the ninth time in school history. The last 13-4 start helped the 2004-05 Cats win the conference title and pull off an upset of No. 4 seed Syracuse in the NCAA Tournament.
CONFERENCE PLAY SCORING MARGINS
The Catamounts have the third-best conference play scoring margin in the country. UVM has outscored its league rivals by 24.0 points in three America East games. Fifth-ranked Gonzaga tops the list with a 29.0 scoring margin and third-ranked Tennessee follows in second at 27.0. No. 16 Buffalo sits right behind Vermont with a 23.4 margin.
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE
UNH returns to Durham where it has accrued a 3-4 record compared to a 0-9 mark on the road. The Wildcats have made 33.3% of their attempts from long distance, the fifth-best percentage in America East. New Hampshire is also one of the top rebounding teams in the league. The Navy and White have the fifth-best rebounding average (34.7) among their conference peers. Josh Hopkins paces the team with an 11.3 scoring average. He racked up 19 points against UMass Lowell in the conference opener last Wednesday. Jordan Reed follows with 10.1 points per game and has logged eight double-digit scoring efforts this season.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The twin state rivalry will add another chapter as the Catamounts lead the Wildcats 103-48 in the all-time series. UVM has won nine straight against UNH - the second-longest active winning streak against a conference opponent. Since the start of the new millennium, the Cats own a 37-7 advantage over the Wildcats. Last year, Vermont swept the season series with a 67-56 win in Durham and a 71-58 victory at Patrick Gym.
