RELIVING LAST YEAR'S AMERICA EAST SEMIFINAL | CatamounTV Highlights
Brooke Jenkins scored what proved to be the game-winner with just eight minutes remaining to lift sixth-seeded Vermont to a 1-0 win over second-seeded Binghamton in last year's America East Semifinal.
Savana Yurick collected a
Taylor Palmer pass down the left flank and dribbled towards goal. Yurick played a low ball across the box, Palmer was taken out trying to one-time the pass leaving Jenkins wide open on the back side. She sent a hard drive past Bearcat keeper Katie Hatziyianis and into the net. The victory sent the Catamounts to their first ever America East title game appearance.
SCOUTING BINGHAMTON
Coming into the season, the Bearcats earned one first-place vote and were picked to finish third in this year's America East Preseason Coaches' Poll. Binghamton rolls into Burlington in the midst of a four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1) and have managed to keep their opponents off the scoreboard. In 10 games, Binghamton has surrendered the third-fewest (10) goals among America East teams. Kayla Saager has carried the offense with a league-leading 18 points, eight goals, and 60 shot attempts. The redshirt senior has logged at least one goal in four straight contests. Ryan Reilly has provided a spark off the bench with five points and sits fifth in the conference with three assists. Netminder Haylee Poltorak enters conference play with the best goals-against average (0.60) and the highest save percentage (.865) in America East.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Last year's season sweep helped Vermont get the upper hand in the all-time series 9-7. The Catamounts have won four straight over the Bearcats and five out of the last six overall. UVM's defense has not surrendered a goal to Binghamton's offense since 2015. Sunday's match will be the earliest the two programs have ever met in a season.
