COACH'S QUOTE
"We are at home, against a great team that had a great game plan and made it very difficult for us and they showed up ready to execute their plan," head coach
Rob Dow said. "We needed some people to step up – not just the 11 on the field – but guys off the bench like Trevor, to make big plays and we are proud of him for being in the right spot at the right time."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts had a chance to get on the scoreboard in the 18th minute with a pair of chances from Jon Arnar Barðdal. After his initial attempt was blocked, the junior ripped a line drive towards the net but a Husky defender stepped in the way.
- Justin Freitas broke the scoreless tie in the 23rd minute. Ívar Örn Árnason lofted a cross from the Northeastern bench into the box. While holding off a defender, Freitas trapped the cross and fired the go-ahead score past Northeastern keeper Noah Abrams (4 saves).
- The Huskies tied the game on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute. Moustapha Samb used the bottom left corner of the net for the equalizer as UVM goalie Aron Runarsson (3 saves) missed the save by inches.
- In the 59th minute, Joe Morrison tried to break the 1-1 tie but his shot was denied by the crossbar. On the rebound, Freitas was there for the header but the senior could not sneak another goal inside of the near post.
- Geo Alves made a defender miss in the 70th minute and found himself one-on-one with Abrams, but the sophomore netminder made a diving save to preserve the 1-1 score.
- Near the end of regulation, Northeastern's Dan Munch broke free from the defense and booted a low shot towards the right post but the ball bounced off the upright.
- In the extra session, the game-winning score was set up when Freitas carved his way towards the goal line then dished a pass in front of the net for the easy one-timer by Colazzo.
