AMERICA EAST WEEKLY HONORS
For the second time this season,
Anthony Lamb was named America East Player of the Week on Monday. He averaged 28.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game in a 2-0 week for the Cats. He helped UVM cap off a three-game sweep in the Washington D.C. area with 19 points in a 72-67 win at George Mason on Dec. 3. He followed up with a career-high 37 points in a 71-65 victory against Ivy League preseason favorite Harvard last Saturday. Lamb's 37-point effort is the highest point total scored by a Catamount since Taylor Coppenrath notched 37 points in the 2005 America East Championship Game. In the win against the Crimson, he knocked down 14-of-22 attempts from the floor and buried five three-pointers.
7-3 STARTS
The Catamounts are off to a 7-3 start for the second time in the last three years and sixth time since the new millennium started. The 7-3 start is also the 20th overall in school history. The last four 7-3 starts has resulted in a postseason berth - NCAA Tournament in 2016-17 and 2004-05, CBI in 2008-09, and the NIT in 2010-11.
BATTLE OF PRESEASON FAVORITES: PART III
For the second straight game, Vermont will face a preseason favorite. Northeastern is the third of four teams on UVM's non-conference docket who were selected as the preseason frontrunner. The Huskies earned 35 of a possible 40 first-place votes in this year's Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) preseason rankings. The Cats will close out the stretch of preseason favorites at defending Atlantic Sun champion Lipscomb before the holiday next Friday (Dec. 21).
SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN
The Huskies have won three of their last four games entering Sunday. Like UVM, NU has constructed a tough non-conference schedule as the group from Beantown has faced four opponents who were either nationally ranked or received votes. Northeastern has been one of the top shooting teams in the CAA with second-best team field-goal percentage (49.2%). Jordan Roland is among the league's top scorers and sits 10th with a 15.7 scoring average. He has hit the 20-point mark in three of his last five games. Donnell Gresham Jr. owns a 12.4 scoring average and the senior guard is coming off a career-high 26 points against Oakland last Saturday. He also has the top assist-to-turnover ratio in the CAA (2.8).
INSIDE THE SERIES
The Catamounts will try to snap a three-game skid against the Huskies as NU leads the all-time series 44-28. Since the 1998-99 season, Vermont has made a strong push in the series with a 13-6 record. The Green and Gold will try to beat its former conference rival at Patrick Gym for the first time since the 2005 America East title game. UVM and Northeastern were two of the original members of America East until NU's departure following the 2004-05 season. The two programs have combined to win 13 America East championships and 18 regular season titles.
