The Vermont Catamounts host the Maine Black Bears for the final home series of 2018 at Gutterson Fieldhouse. UVM opens the series with a 2 p.m. game Friday (Nov. 30) and closes it out Saturday (Dec. 1) at 1 p.m.

SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS
Maine carries a 9-6-1 (3-6-1 WHEA) record, which puts them in a tie for sixth place in Hockey East and one point ahead of the Catamounts. Tereza Vanišová returns to the Black Bears after leading in scoring a season ago with 46 points (16 goals, 30 assists). The junior forward currently paces the offense with 12 goals and 17 points through 15 games. Celine Tedenby has a second-best 14 points in her rookie season, which includes a tie for the team-lead in assists (8). Carly Jackson has 10 starts in net for the Black Bears with a .908 SV% and 2.24 GAA while Loryn Porter has a posted .907 SV% and 1.64 GAA in six starts. Maine finished last season with a 19-14-5 (11-9-4 WHEA) mark and beat Boston University in the quarterfinals before losing to Northeastern in the Hockey East Semifinals.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Friday's game is the 51st all-time meeting against the Maine Black Bears, dating back to Nov. 18, 1995. The Catamounts are 2-2-1 in the last five meetings with the Black Bears and 3-2-0 in the previous five contests at Gutterson Fieldhouse. UVM fell to Maine in one home game last season, but swept the Black Bears the last time they hosted a two-game series in Burlington, which came in January 2017. Vermont skated to a 4-1 victory over the Black Bears behind 21 saves by
Melissa Black and points by
Alyssa Gorecki,
Ali O'Leary, and
Saana Valkama. Valkama and Gorecki each tallied two points the following night in a 3-1 victory over Maine. The UVM senior class has a 5-2-2 record against the Black Bears.
WINDJAMMER CLASSIC RECAP
Vermont finished second in the Windjammer Classic last weekend at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The Catamounts blanked Syracuse 2-0 to open up their tournament slate behind a 30-save shutout by
Melissa Black.
Theresa Schafzahl scored the game-winning goal 3:08 into the first period and
Ève-Audrey Picard registered two assists.
Sammy Kolowrat netted her first goal of the season with a bomb from the point on the power play. UVM skated with the No. 2 Minnesota Golden Gophers the following night for the tournament championship, but fell 6-2.
Kristina Shanahan notched her first goal of the season and
Alyssa Gorecki also tallied a goal for the Catamounts.

CLASS OF 2023
The University of Vermont women's hockey program announced the addition of four recruits set to join the Catamounts in the fall of 2019 on social media Wednesday (Nov. 28). Hailey Burns (Kirkland, Qué.), Natalie Ferenc (Orchard Lake, Mich.), Sara Levesque (Chicoutimi, Qué.), and Cameron Morrissey (Troy, Mich.) are the recent signees. Burns is the lone forward in the group and Ferenc is the only goaltender. Levesque and Morrissey are the two defenders in the Class of 2023.

TEDDY BEAR TOSS
Saturday's game will be the annual Teddy Bear toss! Fans are encouraged to bring stuffed animals to toss on the ice between the second and third periods. The bears will be collected and donated by the team to local kids in need.
CATS IN THE PROS
Taylor Willard '18 leads the Vermont alumnae in scoring with five points (2 goals, 3 assists) in 10 games. The former UVM captain has the second most points for rookie defenders in the CWHL. Willard's Montreal Canadiennes sit in a tie for third in league standings.
Mackenzie MacNeil '18 netted her first professional goal with Brittany Zuback '15 and the Toronto Furies against Gina Repaci '16 and the Markham Thunder. Amanda Pelkey' 15 and
Madison Litchfield '17 face off against the Minnesota Whitecaps this weekend and
Rachael Ade's Connecticut Whale host the Metropolitan Riveters.

Vermont closes out 2018 with a two-game road trip against the ECAC's Yale Bulldogs in New Haven, Connecticut. The first game is Friday (Dec. 7) at 2 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. contest Saturday (Dec. 8).
