AMERICA EAST POSTSEASON HONORS
America East announced its annual awards on Friday as six Catamounts earned All-Conference, All-Rookie, and All-Academic Team honors. From the six major awards, senior forward Geo Alves was named Striker of the Year and landed on the All-Conference First Team. UVM had five additional players recognized – Mikel Kabala (First Team), Jon Arnar Barðdal (Second Team), Justin Freitas (Second Team), Joe Morrison (All-Rookie Team), and Arnar Steinn Hansson (All-Academic Team).

CATS IN THE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT
The Catamounts are 14-14-4 all-time in the America East Tournament with a 10-6-3 record at home. UVM is 3-3-2 in the quarterfinal round and has won its last two quarterfinal contests. The 2018 conference tournament will mark the sixth match as the No. 4 seed for Vermont.

DOW'S SUCCESS
Head coach Rob Dow has tallied 21 wins during his two-year tenure in Catamount Country. Dow's 21 wins are the most by a second-year Division I head coach, two more than FIU's Kevin Nylen (19), and 10 more than Cleveland State's Kirk Harwat (11).

SCOUTING UMBC
The Retrievers earned a 1-1 draw at regular season champion Stony Brook on Wednesday and locked up the No. 5 seed. UMBC went 3-3-1 in conference play and brings its 9-5-1 overall record into the postseason. The Retrievers had four players collect All-America East awards - two on the All-Conference Second Team and two on the All-Rookie Team. Cesare Marconi, a Second Team pick, ranked sixth in the league with 14 points, five goals, and four assists. Jon Bell joined Marconi on the Second Team and helped the Retrievers record six clean sheets as a defender. Newcomer Jordan Ehart played in 16 games with 15 starts on the back line for UMBC. In conference play, freshman goalie Quantrell Jones held a share of the America East lead with two shutouts and had the second-best save percentage (.769).

INSIDE THE SERIES
Saturday's matinee will be the third meeting between the conference rivals in the America East Tournament with a split 1-1 record. The Retrievers won the first matchup, a 3-1 victory in the 2014 America East Semifinals as the top overall seed, but the Cats rebounded and knocked off the three-time defending champs in the 2015 America East Semifinal with a 2-1 overtime victory. The winner of the previous two playoff meetings has captured the conference championship. In the regular season, UVM claimed a 3-0 victory in Baltimore on Sept. 29. Overall, the Catamounts are 9-5-1 all-time against the Retrievers and have won five straight contests by a combined 14-2 score.
